Prep Football: Mount Pleasant Earns First Win, Winfield Victorious, Other Prep Finals:
Mount Pleasant got touchdowns from Payton and Dylon Hagans and Carson Coleman as they survived for a 24-20 win over West Burlington Notre Dame last Friday at Bill Nelson Field.
Leading 14-12 at the halftime break, Mount Pleasant sophomore Jurha Turner intercepted West Burlington Notre Dame quarterback Clayton Vandenberg, setting up Coleman’s one yard plunge to extend the lead to 21-12.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Panther defense bellied up against West Burlington’s offense forcing a turnover on downs, then converting a 37-yard field goal to go up 24-12 with 3:00 to play in the game.
On the ensuing drive, however, the Falcons would counter and fast with Vandenburg going through the air for his second long score, this time from 72 yards to cut the lead to four following a successful two-point play.
After the onside kick was recovered by the Panthers, Mount Pleasant was able to bleed the clock out to earn win number one.
Now 1-3, the Panthers will take the next week to prepare for Fort Madison.
The No. 8 (4A) Bloodhounds will be the homecoming opponent of Mount Pleasant.

College Football: Wesleyan Falls in Second Half Collapse, Other Statewide Finals:
The Iowa Wesleyan football team led 32-16 into the third quarter, but saw the Trinity Trojans score 33 consecutive points from that point on to snake a a 49-32 win over the Tigers Saturday at Bracewell Stadium.
Wesleyan signal caller Gavin Esquivel was picked off five times, including three times in the second half that allowed the Trojans to get back into the game.
Esquivel finished 25-of-49 for 254 yards and three scores.
Hezekiah Hunter paced Wesleyan pass catchers with 116 yards on eight snags.
Amir Dunn led the defense with 12 tackles.
Now 0-4, the Tigers will begin conference action next Saturday back at Bracewell Stadium against Valley City State University.
Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

College Football: AP Top 25 Remains the Same:
The latest AP Top 25 poll has been released and Iowa and Iowa State remained locked into their spots.
The Hawkeyes remain No. 5, while Iowa State stayed at No. 14.
Oklahoma moved one spot down to No. 4 while Penn State moved up four spots to No. 6.
Entering this week’s poll in terms of regional foes were Michigan State at No. 20 and Kansas State at No. 25.
Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan all remain in the Top 25 at 10, 18 and 19 respectively.
Men’s College Golf: Iowa Wesleyan Back on the Course:
The Iowa Wesleyan men’s golf team, who feature two Mount Pleasant alums in Trace White and Brevin Wilson, are back on the course today when they travel to Oskaloosa for the William Penn Tournament.
The Tigers opened their season last week at the Graceland Tournament, securing a 5th place finish.
Trace White led the squad with an 82, which was good for 13th.
Wilson shot an 84, which placed him 20th.
The two-day tournament starting today will be played at the Oskaloosa Golf Course.
