Walter Wilt, 79, of Mount Pleasant, passed away at home on Thursday, June 23, 2022, after a short bout with lung cancer. Services are pending at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel.

Agri-Way Partners regrets to announce that one of our team members was fatally injured in an accident at our Yarmouth facility on June 21st 2022. All of us are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and co-worker. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this most difficult time. The safety and well-being of our employees is our number one priority at Agri-Way Partners. We’re providing law enforcement with information and are fully cooperating in their investigation. Additionally, we’re conducting our own internal investigation as to how this incident happened. We will share more information when appropriate.
I would like to thank our current and past employees who worked through the night to assist in the rescue efforts.
I would also like to thank all of the Fire, Rescue and Law Enforcement agencies from S.E. Iowa who assisted in this rescue efforts. They are too numerous to attempt to recognize in this statement. They all worked through the night in efforts to rescue our team member.
I would also like to thank all the area business and contractors who called and came to help support the efforts in any way they could. The support was overwhelming.
I would especially like to thank the Yarmouth community of Farmers, Families and Business who supported the efforts. They provided food drinks and support to the rescue efforts like I have never seen before in my life.

Public Health now giving COVID-19 vaccines for young children
As of June 18th, the CDC now recommends that all children 6 months through 5 years of age should receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Parents and caregivers can now get their children 6 months through 5 years of age vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines to better protect them from COVID-19. Both vaccines are a smaller dose than the adult vaccines. All children, including children who have already had COVID-19, should get vaccinated.
Henry County Public Health is offering walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinics at the Public Health office (106 N. Jackson St., Mt. Pleasant) on Thursdays 6/30, 7/14, and 7/28 from 9am-3:30pm, and on Thursdays 7/7 and 7/21 from 9am-5:30pm. Bonnie Lucille Thomas
Bonnie Lucille Thomas, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, June 23, 2022 at New London Specialty Care. She was born July 5, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant to Raymond Earl and Frances Lucille Craig Schenk. On February 17, 1955, she married Jack Lloyd Thomas at the Open Bible Church in Mt. Pleasant. He died October 10, 2011.
She attended Mt. Pleasant schools. She enjoyed going to Grandview Church in Quincy until her health declined, then watching the services online.
She worked in production at Heatilator until her retirement and was proud to be a member of the “Silver Circle”. She was a member of the Rhythm Rockers and Happy Memories singing groups; enjoyed participating in Vacation Bible School and nursing home ministries; and loved working in her beautiful flower gardens.
Survivors include her daughters, Cathie (Dan) Schreiner and Sindy (Lawrence) Wear, both of New London; sons Scott (Keri) Thomas of Van Meter and Dennis (Marilyn) Thomas of Quincy, Illinois; one brother Marvin James (Barb) Schenk of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Andrea (Alan) Armstrong, Derek Schreiner, Dawn (Chad) Parker, Dee (David) Paulson, Matthew (Renee) Thomas, Mallory (Aaron) Brown, Zach (Laura) Blome, Bree (Shae) Ary, Joshua Thomas and Zachary (Caitlin) Thomas; and many beloved great and great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roger, Robert and Larry Schenk.
According to her wishes her body has been donated to the University of Iowa deeded body program. There will be a family celebration of life at a later date. A memorial has been established for Grandview Church, 1019 Cedar Street, Quincy, Illinois 62301. Elliott Chapel, New London is assisting the family with arrangements. Mount Pleasant HyVee Has COVID Vaccines for Children 3+
The FDA and CDC recently approved Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (June 22, 2022) — Hy-Vee, Inc. announces that free Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines are now available at select Hy-Vee Pharmacy locations by appointment only to children ages 3+.
Last week, the FDA and CDC approved a 3-dose Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 6 months to 4 years old and a 2-dose Pediatric Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for patients ages 6 months to 5 years old. Under the PREP Act, retail pharmacies, including Hy-Vee pharmacies, are ONLY authorized to administer vaccines to patients ages 3+. Patients younger than age 3 should visit their pediatrician or healthcare provider to receive the vaccine.
In order to create a more kid-centric environment, Hy-Vee operates pharmacy hubs that are dedicated to only administering Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines during select times. The Pediatric COVID-19 vaccine manufacturer available varies by Hy-Vee Pharmacy location. Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines are available by appointment only to children ages 3+ and can be scheduled by visiting www.hy-vee.com/covidvaccine.
A parent or legal guardian must consent to the vaccination and accompany all minors to their vaccination. The COVID-19 vaccines are free to all eligible patients, regardless of their insurance coverage.
It is recommended (but not required) that vaccine recipients/guardians bring the following to their appointment: insurance card (if they have insurance) and Medicare Part B red, white and blue card (if Medicare recipient); photo ID; and their COVID-19 vaccination record card. Masks are required. If patients do not have insurance, they can still be vaccinated.

Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine (ages 3 or 4)
The Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, approved for ages 3 or 4, requires three vaccine doses. The second dose should be administered at least 3 weeks after the first dose, and the third dose should be administered at least 2 months after the second dose. A COVID-19 booster is NOT approved for Pediatric Pfizer-BioNTech (ages 3 or 4) vaccine recipients at this time.
Pediatric Moderna Vaccine (ages 3 to 5)
The Pediatric Moderna vaccine, approved for ages 3 to 5, requires two vaccine doses. The second dose should be administered at least 4 weeks after the first dose.
Moderately to severely immunocompromised children ages 3 to 5 (as outlined by the CDC) are eligible to receive a third (primary) dose of the Pediatric Moderna vaccine at least 4 weeks after the second dose. A COVID-19 booster is NOT approved for Pediatric Moderna (ages 3 to 5) vaccine recipients at this time.

From the MP Municipal Utilities Trustees Meeting
At a recent meeting the Mount Pleasant Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees passed a resolution of Appreciation for the many years Dave McCoid has served as the Utilities legal counsel. After 47 years of service Mr.McCoid is stepping aside. The Trustees voted to retain the legal services of Ahlers & Cooney P.C. Law Firm.

The Board received an update on the Clay Street water main replacement project. There have been a series of bad breaks over the years due to a bad water main. Crews are replacing the four inch main with six inch on Clay from Jay to Walnut. Work is expected to be completed during the first half of August.
The Board reviewed Adams Street Substation 15 kV sheltered aisle switchgear replacement project. Bids will be taken and a public hearing will be held in July for this $850,000 project to replace the existing control building.

Mount Pleasant Varsity Softball was defeated by New London last night by a score of 5-1. Myah Starr pitched the complete game for Mount Pleasant allowing 5 runs, 4 earned on 9 hits with 2 walks and striking out 1. Addison Clark went 1 for 3 at the plate with an RBI. New London’s Sophie Malott went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Megan Lee pitched the complete game for New London, allowing 1 run on 7 hits with 5 walks and striking out 5.
Mount Pleasant Head Coach Mike Beason on last night’s game said, “Good pitching from Myah Starr and solid defense was spoiled by our lack of execution and discipline offensively.”
Panther Softball will be back on the field tonight as they will go on the road for a doubleheader against Keokuk. The first game is set for 5:30 PM with the second to follow at 7:30 PM. New London Softball will be back on the field on Friday for two games, the first being a rescheduled game from June 10th against Hillcrest Academy at 2:00 PM, the second is at 7:00 PM against Highland.
Mount Pleasant Varsity Baseball was defeated by Davis County by a score of 9-6 last night. Carter Amos went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs. Lincoln Henriksen had a double with 3 RBIs. Zerek Venghaus pitched 5 full innings allowing 9 runs, 7 earned on 10 hits with 5 walks and striking out 2. Panther Baseball will go on the road for a 2-game set with Keokuk tonight. The first game is scheduled for 5:30 PM with the second to follow at 7:30 PM.

No. 3 New London Varsity Baseball defeated West Liberty by a score of 12-2 last night to improve to 19-0 on the season. Senior Dereck Santiago went 1 for 2 a home run and 3 RBIs. Seth Bailey pitched 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned on 7 hits with 3 walks and striking out 4. Tiger Baseball will be back on the field Friday night against Highland, that game is set to begin at 7:00 PM and you can catch live coverage here on KILJ.
