June 7 Primary Voting Locations in Henry County

Due to the recent Census a redistricting took place across the state. This meant a change in some polling places.  If you choose to vote on June 7 in the Primary Election you will want to check if your polling place has changed.   Iowans whose polling place has changed should have received a postcard in the mail informing them of the new location.

The polls in Henry County are open June 7 from 7 am to 8 pm at the following locations:

Precinct 1  – Polling Place Wayland City Hall, 218 W Main St, Wayland –  Trenton Township, Marion Township, Jefferson Township to include the incorporated cities of Wayland, Olds and the portion of Coppock within Henry County; that part of Wayne Township residents living west of James Avenue to 140th Street, east to Highway 218, south to the township line.

 

Precinct 2  – Polling Place Winfield City Hall, 115 N Locust St, Winfield –  Canaan and Scott Townships to include the incorporated city of Winfield; that part of Wayne Township residents living east of James Avenue to 140th Street, east to Highway 218, south to the township line.

 

Precinct 3  – Polling Place Emergency Management Building, 900 W Washington St, Mt Pleasant –  Tippecanoe Township, Salem Township to include the incorporated cities of Salem and Hillsboro, Center Townships (excluding the portions of Center Township within Mt. Pleasant’s corporate boundaries) to include the cities of Rome and Westwood

 

Precinct 4  – Polling Place Veterans Hall 1, 300 W Monroe St, Mt Pleasant –  Mount Pleasant Ward 1 as defined by city ordinance and census block 190879704002039 in Center Township.

 

Precinct 5  – Polling Place Veterans Hall 2, 300 W Monroe St, Mt Pleasant –  Mount Pleasant Ward 2 as defined by city ordinance and census blocks 190879703002013, 190879703002067, 190879703001024 in Center Township.

 

Precinct 6  – Polling Place Veterans Hall 3, 300 W Monroe St, Mt Pleasant –  Mount Pleasant Ward 3 as defined by city ordinance.

 

Precinct 7  – Polling Place Veterans Hall 4, 300 W Monroe St, Mt Pleasant –  Mount Pleasant Ward 4 as defined by city ordinance and census block 190879704005005 in Center Township.

 

Precinct 8  – Polling Place Salem Community Center, 201 S Main St, Salem –  Jackson and Baltimore Townships.

 

Precinct 9  – Polling Place New London Community Center, 103 W Washington St, New London –  New London Townships to include the incorporated city of New London.

Vote in person early at the Henry County Courthouse Absentee Voting Place on the 2nd Floor, from parking lot upstairs or off elevator turn to right in the southeast corner Conference room 8 – 4:30. The last day to vote early in the Auditor’s office is June 6. The office is also open June 4 from 9 am to 5 pm for early voting.

Mount Pleasant Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Child Pornography Charges

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Victor Alberto Elias Rodriguez, age 40, of Mount Pleasant, was
sentenced Wednesday, June 1, 2022, to 342 months in prison for Production of Child
Pornography. Elias Rodriguez was also ordered to serve ten years of supervised release following
his imprisonment and was assessed a $100 Special Assessment immediately payable to the Crime
Victims Fund.
According to court documents, officers initiated an investigation into Elias Rodriguez
after receiving information regarding his possible sexual abuse of a minor female. The
investigation revealed that Elias Rodriguez had been sexually assaulting the minor victim from
the age of five, up to this incident when the victim was seventeen years old. In addition, Elias
Rodriguez took a video of the sexual assault with his cell phone. On January 21, 2022, Elias
Rodriguez pleaded guilty to the one-count Indictment.
U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the
announcement. This case was investigated by the Homeland Security Investigations.
This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District
of Iowa as part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s “Project Safe Childhood” initiative, which
was started in 2006 as a nation-wide effort to combine law enforcement investigations and
prosecutions, community action, and public awareness in order to reduce the incidence of sexual
exploitation of children. Any persons having knowledge of a child being sexually abused are
encouraged to call the Iowa Sexual Abuse Hotline at 1-800-284-7821

Road Closure

Henry County Engineers Office announces a bridge replacement project starting the week of June 6th on 220th Street (H-38), east of Nebraska Avenue. The road will be closed for approximately four (4) months, weather permitting. There will be a marked detour route. Questions can be answered at 319 385-0762.

Change of Venue Granted

It looks like there will be a change of venue for the trial of one of the teens charged with murdering a Fairfield teacher .  Willard Miller’s request to have his trial moved out of Jefferson County has been granted.  Miller is charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Nohema Graber, a 66-year-old Spanish teacher from Fairfield. Where the trial will be moved to has not been decided.

The New London Tigers face Keota this morning in Keota at 6 a.m. New London has a record of 4 and O while Keota has a record of 5 and 2.

The Mount Pleasant Panthers will face off against Washington in Washington tonight at 5:30. The Panthers have a record of 2 and 3 while the Demons have a record of 1 and 1. The one and only John Kuhens will be bringing you that game tonight on 105.5 FM and KILJ.com.

 

Softball

Last night the New London Tigers saw a loss of 1-14 to Columbus. They will face Holy Trinity tonight at Holy Trinity at 7 p.m.

The Mount Pleasant Panthers saw a loss last night 0-1 to Wapello. They will Face off against Washington tonight at 5:30 in Washington.

The Mount Pleasant Board of Education POLICY COMMITTEE AND SITE COMMITTEE will meet at 3:30pm on Thursday, June 2, at the Central Office, 1010 E. Washington Street, to review/discuss:

Ramona G. Proper

Ramona G. Proper, 65, of Donnellson, Iowa, passed away at 11:01 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on August 16, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Richard Proper and Barbara Jean Stevens.

She is survived by her father Carl Richard Proper of Donnellson, Iowa; sister Cheryl (Donald) Folker of Farmington, Iowa and brother Steve Proper of Bonaparte, Iowa. Also surviving are two nephews: Steve Junior (Cara) Proper, Derek (Miranda) Proper; two nieces: Amy Folker and Heather Folker.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Ramona graduated from Harmony High School. She enjoyed animals, writing poetry, she was a good athlete and everyone enjoyed being around her. Most of all she loved being with family and friends.

Her body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday June 4, 2022, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington with Pastor Mark Caston officiating.

Burial will be held in Bonaparte Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her memory for PAW Animal Shelter.
