Prep Football: 8-Player, A, 1A and 2A Postseason Brackets Released

KILJ — Postseason football will begin in earnest this week with several area matchups in 8-Player and Class 1A taking place Friday night.

In our area, WACO is the top-dog.

The Warriors, who come in No. 5 in the latest Radio Iowa Football Poll, will play host to Edgewood-Colesburg (5-3).

The Vikings clinched their playoff berth last week with a 54-20 win over Midland, which snapped a mild two-game losing streak.

New London also clinched a playoff berth with their win over HLV Friday.

The Tigers will get top-ranked Montezuma and the high-flying Braves offense orchestrated by all-state quarterback Eddie Burgess.

Burgess has accounted for 48 total touchdowns this year, 25 through the air and 23 on the ground.

In Class 1A, Mediapolis will take on Pella Christian in first-round play this Friday.

The Bulldogs had a pseudo-bye week last week after Louisa-Muscatine forfeited.

Junior running back Anthony Isley is the straw that stirs that Mediapolis offense.

Isley has rushed for 1,120 yards and 12 touchdowns on the campaign.

Pella Christian is 7-1 and are led by dual-threat quarterback Isaac Kacmarynski who has accounted for 29 total scores this year.

All first round playoff matchups will begin at 7:00 p.m. this Friday.
