Prep Volleyball: Notre Dame, New London, Holy Trinity All Preseason Ranked

KILJ — The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released their preseason polls for all classes and as you would expect several area clubs were recognized.

Starting in Class 1A, defending state champion Burlington Notre Dame is the preseason No. 1.

The Nikes return several from last year’s state title team that finished 19-5.

New London — despite losing all-time great head coach Maureen Heath — is the preseason No. 3 in Class 1A.

The Tigers finished last year 22-8 and return many key pieces from that state qualifying group.

The always tough Holy Trinity Crusaders check in as the preseason No. 9 in Class 1A, under long time head coach Melissa Freesmeier.

Holy Trinity missed out on the state volleyball tournament for the first time in 10 years one season ago, when the Crusaders were ousted by Notre Dame on their home floor.

In Class 3A, West Burlington — the new home of said Maureen Heath — is the preseason No. 8.

The Lady Falcons finished last year 18-4.

North Scott and Iowa City Liberty are considered the preseason top dogs in Class 4 and 5A respectively.
