High School Track

Danville celebrated their senior night with a sweep in their Co-Ed invitational last night with the boys collecting 211 points and the girls grabbing 194 points. Leading the way for the boys’ team was Drake Biesler with a gold medal time of 12.24 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Byers Nealey won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute and Ty Frazier sprinted his way to a 1st place time of 1 minute and 2 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. Ryan Wilhelm took the 800-meter run and Jackson Shacklett grabbed the gold in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. The Bears also picked up victories in the 800 sprint medley, 4×400, 4×800, and the distance medley relays. 

New London finished in 2nd place as a team with 134 points. Dylan Burden posted a time of 19.16 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles for 1st place. Logan Franklin took home the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.1 seconds. Cael Wilka won the discus with a toss of 112 feet and 7 inches and the shot put with a heave of 35 feet and 5.25 inches. London Franklin leapt 20 feet and 11 inches to win the long jump. The 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams also grabbed 1st place. 

On the girls’ side for Danville, Violette Sowell paced the Bears with a win in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.63 seconds. Delaney Newberry took the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.43 seconds. Alaina Gourley grabbed two 1st place finishes in the 400-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles. Addison Henkelvig also took home dual victories in the 800-meter run and the 1500-meter run. Sadie Smith tossed the discus 84 feet and 1 inch for the win. Alivia Bauer jumped 15 feet and 8 inches in the long jump to finish in 1st place. The Bears won the 800 sprint medley, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, 4×800, and distance medley relays. 

Irelynn Kelly won the 3000 meter run with a time of 14 minutes and 52 seconds for New London. Megan Lee grabbed the gold in the shot put with a heave of 28 feet and 9.5 inches. 

Columbus will make the trip to Liberty High School today for a Co-ed invitational. 

Mt. Pleasant will compete in the Williamsburg Co-Ed invitational on Tuesday, April 8th. 

The Fairfield girls’ team will host their relays on Tuesday with Central Lee making the trip, while the Trojan boys’ team will participate in the Dennis Anderson relays.  

Mediapolis will host the Dave Aamodt Relays on Tuesday with Danville, Wapello, West Burlington/Notre Dame, and Winfield-Mt. Union making the journey.

The WACO relays are scheduled for Tuesday with New London, Van Buren County, and Columbus competing.

High School Tennis

Mt. Pleasant will square off against Keokuk on Monday, April 7th, with the girls’ team hosting the Chiefs and the boys’ team hitting the road. 

Fairfield will face off against Burlington on Thursday, April 10th, with the boys on the road and the girls at home.

High School Golf

Central Lee will host Mediapolis on Monday, April 7th. 

Van Buren County will venture to Holy Trinity Catholic for a showdown on Monday. 

Burlington Notre Dame will host the Nike Invitational with Danville, Central Lee, and Winfield-Mt. Union competing on Tuesday, April 8th. 

Winfield-Mt. Union will travel to WACO on Monday for a duel.

Danville will square off against New London on Monday at home. 

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team will compete in an SEC meet at Fairfield on Monday, while the girls’ team will travel to Washington for their SEC showdown. 

Columbus will take on Lone Tree on Tuesday at home. 

High School Soccer

The Mediapolis girls’ team fell to Burlington last night 3-1 with Amelia Grier scoring the lone goal for the Bulldogs, while the boys’ team put up a slew of shots in a 3-1 victory over Keokuk. The Mediapolis girls’ team will square off against Fairfield on Tuesday, April 8th, on the road. 

The Danville boys’ team will take on Mediapolis on Thursday, April 10th, at home with gametime at 5:30 pm.

The Burlington Notre Dame boys’ team defeated Hillcrest Academy last night 1-0. The Nikes will take on Burlington in a road matchup with the girls playing first at 5 pm.

Central Lee will travel to Keokuk on Monday, April 7th, with the girls’ team playing at 5 pm with the boys’ team to follow at 7 pm.

Mt. Pleasant will host Columbus on Monday with the girls’ team playing first at 4:30 pm and the boys’ team to follow.

The WACO boys’ team will tangle with Fairfield on Monday at home at 5 pm.

Southeastern Community College                                                     

The softball team will face off against St. Louis Community College tomorrow, April 6th, on the road in a doubleheader. 

The baseball team will travel to Iowa Lakes Community College today for the start of their three-game series. 

College Basketball

Iowa State’s Curtis Jones scored nine points and tabbed four assists for the East All-Stars in their 100-91 win over the West All-Stars in the NABC Reese’s College All-Star Game yesterday. Keshon Gilbert was also selected to play, but was unable to due to injury. 

March Madness

The KILJ bracket challenge, sponsored by The Press Box and Wiley’s Interior Furnishings and Design, is gearing up for a tight finish with only four teams left in the bracket. The Final Four is slated to start tonight.
