Mt. Pleasant Meet the Players

Mt. Pleasant’s Meet the Players is tonight, August 19th. Introductions for Cheerleaders, Cross Country, Football, and Volleyball will begin at 7:15 pm. The Freshmen and Sophomore football teams will scrimmage at 7:40 pm, followed by a Varsity scrimmage to conclude the night.

New London Football

Football is back in Southeastern Iowa tonight, August 19th, as the New London Tigers start their 2022-23 season with a week zero matchup at home against the Moravia Mohawks. The Tigers finished last season with a record of 4-4 with a playoff appearance. KILJ will have the call with Coach Bennett and I heading to New London. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.

New London Volleyball

Next Tuesday, August 23rd, the New London Tigers Freshmen/Sophomore Volleyball team will be competing in a 5 team round robin at New London High School. The other teams in attendance will be Danville, Burlington, West Burlington Notre Dame, and Winfield-Mt. Union. The Round Robin is scheduled to start at 5 pm.

WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union Start Week Zero

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 20th, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union will travel to Martensdale-St. Marys for a four-team football showcase. Winfield-Mt. Union, who was ranked 9th in the Des Moines Register’s preseason rankings, will face off against Audubon at 2 pm. WACO, who was slotted in at number 4 of those same rankings, will battle against Southeast Warren to end the night as they will look to continue their dominant stretch, as they went 10-1 last fall.

Winfield-Mt. Union

Winfield-Mt. Union’s Meet the Players has been postponed. The new date will be August 22nd from 5 to 7 pm. It will coincide with Back-to-School Supply Night, so player introductions will begin at 7 pm. There will also be a supper and kids carnival running throughout the scheduled time.

Cam Buffington Ranked in Top 10 Iowa High School Players

The Des Moines Register ranked the Top 10 Iowa High School football players heading into the 2022-23 season and the star for the Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves, Cam Buffington, was placed 7th. Buffington was the leading passer, rusher, and tackler for the Wolves last season as he accounted for 35 Wolves touchdowns.

Iowa Wesleyan Soccer

Iowa Wesleyan’s fall sports will officially get underway this weekend as both the men’s and women’s soccer teams have games scheduled.

The Men’s team travels to Southeastern Community College today, August 19th, to kick off the season. Their first home game is August 21st against North Iowa Area Community College.

The Women’s team begins their season traveling to face off against William Penn University tomorrow, August 20th. Their first home game will take place August 27th when St. Mary-Of-The-Woods College travels into town.

Iowa Wesleyan’s Adaugo Nwachukwu Wrestling for Bronze

Adaugo Nwachukwu is wrestling for Bronze in the Women’s Freestyle this morning, August 19th, in Sofia, Bulgaria for Team USA at the U20 World Championships at 10 am. Nwachukwu was selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on March 15th, 2022, for her NAIA Women’s National Championship win while only being a Freshman at Iowa Wesleyan.
