High School Basketball

The Mt. Pleasant’s girls’ team will travel to play Ottumwa tonight at 7:30 pm to end their regular season, while the boys’ team will face off against the Bulldogs tonight at home. KILJ will be covering the girls’ game with the pregame show at 7:15 pm.

The Holy Trinity Catholic boys’ team cruised to a 54-36 victory as the Crusaders allowed only 10 points in the second half. The girls’ team will play Wapello February 9th to start their regional play at 7 pm.

The Central Lee boys’ team defeated Columbus 56-44 on Saturday as Brayden Wyrick finished with a double-double scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The Hawks will be hosting Cardinal tonight with the girls’ going at 6 pm followed by the boys.

The New London boys’ team held on to defeat Pekin 67-66 despite being outscored 19 to 13 in the fourth quarter. Blaise Porter led the Tigers in scoring with 27 points and nabbing 10 rebounds. The boys’ team will host Keokuk tomorrow, February 7th, at 7 pm and the girls’ will travel to play Burlington Notre Dame on February 9th for their first game of their regional.

The Danville boys’ team crushed Louisa-Muscatine 84-30 over the weekend. Spencer Nelson led the way for the Bears putting up 24 points in the winning effort. The girls’ team’s next game is February 14th against West Burlington to start their regional play.

In the battle between two undefeated teams, West Burlington came out on top against WACO 56-44, the top teams in the SEISC shootout. The boys’ team will face off against Pekin tomorrow at home at 7:30 pm. The girls’ will start their regional play February 9th against Keota at home at 7 pm.

The Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ team edged out Burlington Notre Dame over the weekend 53-52 thanks to Cam Buffington’s double-double as he put up 15 points and captured 11 rebounds. The boys’ team will host Lone Tree tomorrow at 7:30 pm. The girls’ team will play the winner of Holy Trinity Catholic and Wapello on February 14th.

High School Wrestling

The State Duals took place over the weekend with Don Bosco winning the title for Class 1A, Osage defeated West Delaware to win the championship for Class 2A, and Waverly-Shell Rock repeated as champion for Class 3A.

The next competition for the Mt. Pleasant boys’ team will be at the Class 2A District 9 postseason meet on February 11th. To make it to state, wrestlers in Class 1A or 2A must finish in first or second-place and third-place finishers in Class 3A District Tournaments will also qualify.

High School Bowling

Mt. Pleasant will be competing in the Southeast Conference Tournament on February 9th.

Iowa Wesleyan Athletics

The women’s basketball team cruised to a 20-point victory over Northern New Mexico College, 78-58. Isabell West scored 25 points as she went 9 for 10 at the free throw line and added 11 rebounds to the winning effort. The Tigers will be at home to face off against Columbia College at 5:30 pm on February 9th.

The 23rd-ranked men’s team got back to their winning ways on Saturday against Crowley’s Ridge College as they defeated the Pioneers 83-58. Carver Locke led the way in scoring with 19 points, while Francis Okwuosah finished with a double-double capturing 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The Tigers will be back at home February 8th against St. Ambrose University at 7 pm.

The men’s wrestling team will face off against 16th ranked Baker University tomorrow.

The women’s wrestling team competed in the Grand View Open in two divisions: silver and gold. In the silver division, Nadia Abdijanovic went 5-1 on the day and finished in 3rd place after winning by an 8-4 decision in the 3rd place bout. In the gold division, the #7 JoAnna Vanderwood lost to Skye Realin of Central Methodist University in the 3rd place match to claim 4th place. #1 Adaugo Nwachukwu cruised her way to the championship match and won by tech fall to remain undefeated on the season. The Tigers will be at home tomorrow to go against 20th ranked Baker University.

The Tigers competed in the Luther College Invitational over the weekend. KeRon Blackwell won the men’s high jump, leaping 6 feet 5 inches. Daron Jackson won the men’s triple jump and Bri Hunter won the women’s shot put with a heave of 41 feet 4.25 inches. Logan Lucas broke the school record in the 2,000 meter dry steeplechase with a time of 6 minutes 31 seconds, which placed him in 2nd. Daron Jackson won the men’s 400 meter dash with a run of 52.55 seconds, which puts him fifth in school history. The team of Angel Lottie, Judah Rivers, Jabez Rivers, and Daron Jackson won the men’s 4×400 meter relay, their third of the season. The women place 6th at the invitational. The men’s team took the Luther College Invitational championship, their first team win in school history.
