Prep Football: WACO Ready to Shine in Second Round:

The No. 5 WACO Warrior football will hope to morph into “road” Warriors tonight when they travel to 7-2 Martensdale-St. Mary’s in an 8-Player Level 2 playoff matchup.

The Warriors, 9-0, were subject to the road due to archaic, alphabetical tiebreakers despite having a two-game advantage on record.

Seeding is done solely on district records, and like WACO, Martensdale-St. Mary’s went 6-0.

They will host because “M” comes before “W” in the alphabet, per head coach Chad Edeker.

Be that as it may, the Blue Devils are coming off a 74-52 Level 1 win over BGM, where sophomore tailback Kade Mullins accrued four touchdowns.

The young bellcow rushed for a season high 190 yards last week. He has 631 yards in total on the season with 12 scores.

On the other side, WACO quarterback Isaac Oswald played perhaps his best game of the season in last week’s thrilling 39-36 win over Edgewood-Colesburg.

Oswald threw two scores and ran the ball tactically, providing a boost to an offense that before half was a bit stuck in the mud.

But, like every WACO game, their offense will be ran through their star tailback Simeon Reichenbach.

Reichenbach handled 35 touches last week and produced 164 total yards and a touchdown.

He will be tasked with workhorse duties once more.

Tonight’s game can be heard on FM 105.5, with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Kickoff from Martensdale is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Nathan Bloechl and Kent Bennett will have the broadcasting duties.
