Iowa Family Week
Starting back in 2021, the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union agreed to institute “Family Week” into the Iowa Unified Activity Federation calendar. This week prohibits any coach and/or teacher contact with student-athletes and prohibits any state sponsored events from occurring.
Local Athletic Camps
Wapello will be holding a youth football camp for students entering 3rd through 8th grade starting on August 3rd and running through the 6th from 4 to 5:30 pm. The camp will cost $25 and includes a t-shirt. If you have any questions, then email coach Tony Johnson at tony.johnson@wapellocsd.org.

New London will host their youth football camp from August 3rd through the 5th from 5 to 7 pm at the high school football field for 1st through 6th graders. The camp is free and participants can sign-up for a t-shirt on the first day of the camp.
Danville High School will be hosting the Soukup Basketball Camp August 7th, going from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, and August 8th and 9th from 2 to 5 pm for boys and girls entering 3rd through 8th grades. The camp will cost $60 per camper. The registration deadline to receive a t-shirt is tomorrow, July 26th.

Prospect League
The Burlington Bees swept their weekend competition, beating the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes, 13-11, and the Quincy Doggy Paddlers, 10-4. Tate Slagle smacked a home run and tabbed five RBIs over the weekend. The Bees will host the Doggy Paddlers tomorrow, July 28th, at 6:30 pm.
The Clinton LumberKings fell in both of their games this past weekend, losing 17-6 to the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp and 8-4 against the Decatur Bean Ballers. Gavin Awbrey sprinted around the basepath for an RBI triple yesterday. The LumberKings will start a road series against the Lafayette Aviators tomorrow at 6 pm.

1959 – Baseball’s new Continental League is formally announced by attorney William Shea; teams in Denver, Colorado; Houston, Texas; Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota; New York City; and Toronto, Ontario are confirmed, with three more to be named later. The league never plays a game.
1988 – Baseball star Tommy John commits a record three errors on one play as the Yankees rout the Brewers 16-3.
