High School Track
Danville, Columbus, New London, Wapello, and Winfield-Mt. Union will make the trip to WACO for their state qualifying meet on Thursday, May 15th.
Mt. Pleasant will host their state qualifying meet on Thursday with Fairfield and West Burlington/Notre Dame participating.
Mediapolis will travel to Monticello, Van Buren County will go to Wayne, and Central Lee will make the trip to PCM for their state qualifying meets on Thursday.
High School Tennis
The Mt. Pleasant girls’ team competed in their Individual Regionals yesterday and Bethany Drury finished the day 2-1. The Panther swept Mady Emmet of Fort Madison and battled Brylie Lindberg of Davis County after dropping the first set, winning the tiebreaker 10-2, before dropping her quarterfinal matchup. The Mt. Pleasant girls’ team will travel back to Fairfield on Friday, May 16th, for their team Regional Tournament.
The Fairfield boys’ team will host the District singles and doubles tournament tomorrow, May 14th, with Mt. Pleasant making the trip.
High School Golf
The Highland girls’ team swept the Southeast Iowa Super Conference team title with a score of 370 and the individual championship as Emersyn Schultz carded an 87.
Wapello finished in 2nd place with a team score of 401, two strokes better than Columbus, who took home the bronze. Emmalin Marshall of Wapello earned First-Team All-Conference honors with the sixth-best score of the course with a 93, as Hailey Wellington of Columbus lost the tiebreaker, taking 7th place and Second-Team honors.
New London collected 4th place with a team card of 407 and a First-Team member with Emma Busby shooting a 92, the fifth-best score of the course. Stevey Wintermeier took home Second-Team honors.
Van Buren County collected 5th place with a team score of 427 as Sophia Jirak finished on the podium with the third-best score of 90, a First-Team selection. WACO’s Morgan Meyer was the last member of our local teams on the First-Team as she carded a 90 for fourth-place.
Danville and Winfield-Mt. Union tied for 6th place with a 437 followed by Mediapolis, Notre Dame/West Burlington, and Holy Trinity Catholic, respectively. Danville’s Eastin Chipman finished on the Third-Team with a score of 101. Winfield-Mt. Union’s Ashlyn Bender’s 96 ranked 9th in the field, which was good enough for Second-Team honors. Emersyn Hopkins of Notre Dame/West Burlington was the top golfer for the team, carding a 101, which earned Third-Team honors. Lastly, Central Lee’s Marie Young took home a 98 for All-Conference Second Team.
The girls’ Class 1A Region 5 meet will take place on Friday in Wapello with Winfield-Mt. Union, WACO, New London, Danville, Holy Trinity Catholic, and Columbus making the trip.
The Mediapolis and Central Lee girls’ teams will head to Kalona for the Class 2A Region 5B meet on Friday.
The SEC girls’ teams will compete in their tournament tomorrow, May 14th.
In Class 1A, Winfield-Mt. Union will host their Sectional meet tomorrow with Danville, Holy Trinity Catholic, New London, WACO, and Wapello making the trip.
Mediapolis, Central Lee, Columbus, and Van Buren County will make the trip to Pella for their Class 2A sectional meet.
The Mt. Pleasant and Burlington Notre Dame boys’ teams will head to Washington, while the Fairfield boys’ team will make the trip to Knoxville for their Class 3A District Qualifiers tomorrow.
High School Soccer
The Mediapolis girls’ collected their fourth consecutive win last night in a 3-0 final over Canton. The Bulldogs will compete against Keokuk on Thursday, May 15th, at 5 pm on the road.
The Columbus girls’ team’s duo of Iris Garza and Frannie Sosa each found the back of the net twice in a 5-1 win over Wapello last night.
The Wapello girls’ team will face off against Mid-Prairie in the Class 1A Region 3 first round at 7 pm on Monday, May 19th.
Mt. Pleasant was swept by Fort Madison last night with the girls’ team unable to keep pace with the Bloodhounds in a 6-3 loss, while the boys’ team fell 4-2. Dylan White netted a goal and Samuel Schaapen notched a goal and an assist. The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team finished the regular season with a 10-4-1 record and as SEC champs.
The Mt. Pleasant girls’ team will make the trip to Burlington Notre Dame on Thursday at 5 pm.
Fairfield split their matchup against Burlington last night with the girls’ team getting swatted away 10-0, while Ian Richard’s four goals stomped the Grayhounds 6-3. The Trojans will compete against Centerville on Thursday in a road doubleheader with the girls’ team leading off the night at 5:30 pm.
The Central Lee girls’ team escaped a five-game funk with a 3-1 win over Burlington Notre Dame last night. The Hawks will travel to Fort Madison tonight at 5 pm.
The boys’ SEISC tournament is slated to start tonight. At Mediapolis, the Bulldogs will host WACO at 7 pm, while Hillcrest Academy will face off against Highland to start the night at 5 pm. Danville will compete against Central Lee at 7 pm at Burlington Notre Dame.
