High School Track and Field

Mt. Pleasant will travel to Fort Madison tomorrow, May 2nd, for their conference meet.

The girls’ and boys’ teams of Winfield-Mt. Union, New London, Central Lee, Van Buren County, Mediapolis, and West Burlington will travel to WACO for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet tomorrow.

High School Soccer

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union will travel to Wapello next Monday, May 6th, with the girls playing first at 5 pm.

The WACO boys’ team will host Danville Friday, May 3rd, at 5 pm.

Central Lee split their games against Burlington Notre Dame last night with the girls’ team winning 3-2 and the boys’ team losing to the Nikes 2-1. The Central Lee girls’ team will face off against Mid-Prairie tomorrow at 5 pm. The boys’ team will host Keokuk on Friday, May 3rd, at 7 pm. 

The Mediapolis girls’ team picked up a dominating win against Keokuk last night 8-0. The boys’ team followed suit with a victory against Hillcrest Academy 3-0. The girls’ team will take on Canton on May 6th. The boys’ team will wait for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament on Tuesday, May 7th. 

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team struggled on the road against Fort Madison last night, falling 6-0. In a battle for second place in the SEC, the Fort Madison girls’ team exited with the win 5-2. Teagan Snaadt tallied two goals for the Bloodhounds. The Panthers will compete against Burlington tomorrow with the boys’ team on the road and the girls’ team celebrating senior night at home. 

The Danville boys’ team crushed Highland last night 9-2. Kadu Garcia and Colin Pealer tabbed hat tricks in the win. Talan Whaley, Jacob Miller, and Clayton Gilpin each contributed a goal to the winning effort. 

High School Tennis

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team traveled down to Keokuk and handled the Chiefs, winning 8-1. Phoenix Watson, Lou Schimmelpfennig, and Zach Johnson shut out their opponents in singles competition. Watson and Schimmelpfennig and Gavin Ross and Johnson each won their doubles match 8-6, while Dane Cook and Sawyer Fulton shut out their opponent. 

The Mt. Pleasant girls’ team grabbed a win last night against Keokuk 6-3. Jana Isanta ended the regular season with a perfect 11-0 singles record after her and Ellie Situmeang won their matches 8-1. Bethany Drury and Victoria Smith also won their singles match. The teams of Isanta and Situmeang and Drury and Audrey Richmond took their doubles matches 8-1. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 7-4 record, including a 5-3 conference mark,

Mt. Pleasant will be competing in their conference tournaments today with the girls’ team heading to Faifield and the boys’ team traveling to Burlington.

High School Golf

The New London girls’ team traveled to Keokuk yesterday and had two of the top scores of the course. Taylor Phillips finished with an 18-hole score of 69, while Sophie Malott carded a 79. 

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference boys’ teams will compete in their conference meet today while the girls’ team will participate in their conference meet on Monday, May 6th. 

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team will compete in their SEC meet today.

The Mt. Pleasant girls’ team will compete in their SEC meet next Wednesday, May 8th. 

The Central Lee girls’ team will participate in a triangular tomorrow, May 2nd, at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Park.

The Central Lee boys’ team will host a meet on Saturday, May 4th, with Van Buren County, Holy Trinity Catholic, and Burlington Notre Dame also making the trip. 

WACO will host Hillcrest Academy on Friday, May 3rd.

Southeastern Community College

SCC baseball will look to get back in the win column today against Ellsworth Community College.

SCC softball will face off against Indian Hills Community College in a best-of-three series starting today to advance to their conference championship game.

1991 – Texas Rangers starter Nolan Ryan pitches an MLB record 7th no hitter; beats Toronto, 3-0. At 44, Ryan is the oldest to throw a no-hitter.
