High School Golf

The girls’ Class 1A state meet concluded yesterday and New London’s Emma Busby carded an 87 for day two to finish in 24th place with a final score of 38-over par. Emmalin Marshall of Wapello took home 38th place with a final score of 186 after shooting a 97 yesterday. Highland finished in 4th place as a team with Emersyn Schultz collecting a score of 24-over par for 6th place to lead the team. Easton Valley nabbed the team championship.

High School Soccer

For the boys’ Class 2A state tournament quarterfinals, #6 Burlington Notre Dame will hit the road to face off against Williamsburg at 7 pm on Monday, June 2nd. 

In the girls’ Class 1A Region 3 bracket, Mid-Prairie’s underdog run came to an end last night against Assumption, falling 8-0. 

In the girls’ Class 2A Region 4 bracket, Burlington was thwarted by Xavier last night, losing 3-1 to the Saints. The Grayhounds finished the season with a 13-3-2 record. 

High School Baseball

West Burlington and Van Buren County needed extra innings to decide a winner last night and the Warriors picked up the 6-5 win in walk-off fashion. Kinnick Millard knocked home two runs in the winning effort. 

West Burlington will host Burlington Notre Dame on Tuesday, June 3rd, at 5:30 pm.

Central Lee clobbered Danville last night 14-2. Blake Davis had a big night for the Hawks with a home run, a double, helping tab four RBIs for the sophomore. Jaden Bauer collected a double, a triple, and the lone RBI for the Bears. 

Central Lee will travel to Anamosa on Monday, June 2nd, at 7 pm.

Danville will take on Hillcrest Academy at home on Monday at 7:30 pm.

For the first time since 2018, Mediapolis took down Burlington Notre Dame 12-6 last night. Kyler Crow led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs with a double and two RBIs. 

Mediapolis will participate in a tournament today at Jenk Field with Don Bosco and Beckman Catholic competing against the Bulldogs. 

Wapello won their first game of the season in walk-off fashion against Lone Tree last night 5-4. Wyatt Marlette and Coy Wiley each notched two RBIs in the win. Wapello will face off against Winfield-Mt. Union on Tuesday at 5:30 pm on the road. 

Winfield-Mt. Union lost to Pekin last night 7-4. Riley Kaalberg hit a home run and tallied two RBIs in the loss. The Wolves will make the trip to Van Buren County on Monday at 5:30 pm.

Mt. Pleasant trailed by eight runs entering the bottom of the fifth inning, before J.C. Sitar’s towering two-run blast to left field started a six run rally over the next two innings for the Panthers. Unfortunately, it would prove to not be enough as Mt. Pleasant fell to Muscatine last night 11-8. The Panthers will host a doubleheader on Monday against Fairfield with game one at 5:30 pm.

Fairfield and Van Buren County will hit the road today for the Davis County Classic.

New London will face off against Pekin on Monday at 7 pm at home.

High School Softball

Mediapolis defeated Holy Trinity Catholic last night 9-6. Delaney Griffith logged three RBIs in the winning effort. The Bulldogs will take on Louisa-Muscatine on Monday, June 2nd, at 7 pm at home.

Holy Trinity Catholic will face off against West Burlington/Notre Dame on Tuesday, June 3rd, at 7 pm on the road. 

Van Buren County had victory ripped away last night against West Burlington/Notre Dame as the Falcons scored three runs in the top of the 7th inning to win 5-3. The Warriors will take on Pekin on Thursday, June 5th, at 5:30 pm at home.

New London was shutout by Louisa-Muscatine last night 13-0. The Tigers will host Pekin on Monday at 7 pm.

Wapello snuck past Lone Tree last night 4-3. The Arrows will participate in the Jim Turner Classic in Williamsburg today. 

WACO fell to Hillcrest Academy last night 16-2. The Warriors will start a three-game road stand on Tuesday against Lone Tree at 5:30 pm. 

Columbus’ late offensive surge led to a 7-5 win over Highland last night. 

West Burlington/Note Dame, Mt. Pleasant, and Columbus will venture to Louisa-Muscatine today for a tournament. 

Central Lee and Danville will participate in the Redette Classic in Centerville today.

Southeastern Community College

Tomorrow, June 1st, is the last day to register for the SCC Summer Volleyball Camp running Monday, June 16th, through Wednesday, June 18th. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades 3rd through 12th and there are limited spots in each session. It will be held at the Loren Walker Arena in West Burlington.

Prospect League

The Burlington Bees outlasted the Clinton LumberKings last night, winning 11-10 in extra innings. Keanu Spenser finished the night with three RBIs as he launched a home run to start the scoring. The two will get their rematch tonight at 6:30 pm.
