Prep Basketball: New London Wins in 3OT; Panther Girls Dominate

New London 77, Mount Pleasant 74

Blaise Porter poured in 29 points as New London rallied for a 77-74 three overtime triumph over Mount Pleasant last night in a Henry County crossover.

Mount Pleasant, who lead 30-25 at recess, saw the 1A’s No. 11 ranked program rally back in the second half to tie the score at 63 through four quarters.

Kade Benjamin added 15 points for the Tigers, while Cam Kasel and Devon Swanson each finished with 12.

Dewon Trent led the Panthers with 27 points, while Payton Hagans chipped in with 17.

The loss was Mount Pleasant’s fourth in a row, they’re now 2-6.

New London improved to 10-0.

Mount Pleasant 55, New London 14 (Girls)

Mount Pleasant held New London to just 14 points for the game, rolling to a 55-14 win over the Tigers yesterday at Charles Lorber Gymnasium.

The Panthers led 24-2 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Emma Nye led the Tigers with five points.

Mount Pleasant won their third straight, they’re now 4-6.

New London slumped to 0-12.

Prep Basketball: Tuesday Slate Packed:

Tonight will be a busy night in the Super Conference and Southeast Conference with prep basketball getting back in full swing.

All Super Conference matchups are girl-boy doubleheaders and will begin at 6:00 p.m.

College Basketball: Wesleyan Men in Home Matinee:

The Iowa Wesleyan men will be back in action today when they host Lincoln Christian University in a home matinee.

The Tigers, who have lost three straight, will welcome in the Lions for a 3:00 p.m. tip in a game you can listen to on FM 105.5 and kilj.com.

The Tigers are seeking their first win since December 11th when they took down Bellevue University.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Christian is 4-10.

The Lions picked up win number four on December 15th in 99-84 fashion against Welch College.

They’re led by Josh Donaldson, who is scoring 16.6 points per game.

Wesleyan is paced by Joey Brown’s 14.2 points per game.

College Basketball: Murray Named B1G Ten Player of the Week:

University of Iowa men’s basketball sophomore Keegan Murray has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the Big Ten Conference Office.

This is the third weekly honor given to Murray.

Murray, who is tops in the country in points per game (23.7), has netted 25+ points seven times this season.

He scored 35 in last night’s 80-75 win over Maryland.

Iowa will be off until Thursday when they battle Wisconsin.

Women’s College Basketball: Clark Earns Another B1G Weekly Honor:

Iowa sophomore Caitlin Clark has been named the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced.

Clark, a Des Moines, Iowa, native registered a career-high 44 points in the Hawkeyes’ win over Evansville on Sunday, breaking the Carver-Hawkeye Arena record that had stood for nearly 22 years.

Clark also broke the 1,000-career point barrier, becoming the fastest Big Ten women’s basketball athlete and the eighth NCAA athlete to meet the mile marker in 40 games or less.

Iowa returns to action this Thursday at home against Northwestern.
