High School Volleyball

Wapello participated in the Westside Invite over the weekend and finished 2-4 against some tougher competition with three set victories over Des Moines Roosevelt (14-25, 25-12, 20-18) and West Liberty (25-21, 15-25, 18-16). Mila Jordan collected 30 kills and 10 aces over the course of the tournament. The Arrows will celebrate their senior night tomorrow, October 14th, at 7:30 pm against Louisa-Muscatine. 

#2 Holy Trinity Catholic struggled at the Pella Invite over the weekend, failing to win a set against Knoxville, Washington, Valley, and the Dutch. 

Mediapolis will host a tournament on Thursday, October 16th, at 5 pm with Holy Trinity Catholic participating. 

Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield traveled to Oskaloosa over the weekend and the Trojans finished 3-1, including a narrow three set victory over Mt. Pleasant (15-21, 21-10, 15-13). Faith Jones tabbed 77 assists and nine aces throughout the weekend. The pair will head to Keokuk tonight for the Southeast Conference Tournament finals.  

West Burlington handled business at the Davis County Tournament, going a perfect 5-0, including sweeps of Van Buren County and Central Lee to grab the tournament victory. Kaylee Webb was a force at the net for the Falcons as she nabbed 60 kills through the five matches.

Van Buren County collected two wins, including a sweep of Central Lee, while the Hawks picked up a victory over Centerville in straight sets and a narrow three-set win over Davis County (21-14, 23-25, 17-15). Taylor Jones finished with 18 kills for Central Lee.

West Burlington will host Mediapolis for their senior night tomorrow at 7:30 pm.

WACO will take on Pekin at home tomorrow for their regular season finale. 

Columbus will celebrate their senior night tomorrow against Hillcrest Academy at 7:30 pm. 

Danville will host an Invite on Thursday with Burlington Notre Dame and Mt. Pleasant making the trip. 

High School Cross Country

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference will meet at Hillcrest Academy tomorrow, October 14th.

Mt. Pleasant will host the Southeast Conference meet on Thursday, October 16th.

High School Football

#9 Mt. Pleasant returns home to square off against #3 Solon at 7:30 pm on Friday, October 17th, with the winner claiming the District Championship. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm.

Mediapolis will host Central Lee on Friday at 7 pm.

WACO will take on #4 Iowa Valley on Friday at 7 pm on the road. 

Fairfield will compete against Keokuk at home on Friday at 7:30 pm. 

West Burlington/Notre Dame will tangle with Mid-Prairie at 7 pm on Friday. 

Second place for Class A District 5 will be up for grabs when Danville travels to Wapello on Friday at 7 pm. 

Winfield-Mt. Union will face off against Belle Plaine on Friday at 7 pm. 

Southeastern Community College

The men’s soccer team snuck out with a 1-0 victory over Central Community College over the weekend, while the women’s team was shutout 2-0. The men’s and women’s soccer teams will host Iowa Central Community College on Wednesday, October 15th, with the women playing first. 

The volleyball team went undefeated over the weekend, sweeping Black Hawk College and East Central College. The Blackhawks will take on Iowa Central Community College on Wednesday at 7 pm at home. 

College Football

Iowa State was knocked out of the top 25 after being on the wrong end of an upset for the second consecutive week, losing 24-17 to Colorado. Abu Sama III was the only source of offense, rushing for 177 yards and two scores in the losing effort. The Cyclones will get a chance to regroup with a bye week.

Iowa whacked Wisconsin over the weekend to the tune of a 37-0 shutout to keep the Heartland Trophy in their possession. Kamari Moulton led the ground attack with 96 yards and a score. The Hawkeyes will face off against Penn State on Saturday, October 18th, at 6 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM will be on the call.
