David Lloyd Schenk, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
David was born on February 16, 1947, in Mount Pleasant, the son of John Casper and Mary Lou (Chrisinger) Schenk. He graduated from Washington High School in the class of 1965. After his high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on April 30, 1970. He was very proud of his military service to his country. He served on the USS Little Rock during the 6 Day War. David worked for the Farmstead Meat Packing Plant and later for the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Cedar Rapids Harmony Hawks and the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale. Throughout his life he had a passion for trains; he enjoyed watching, taking photos and talking about them. David enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Alexis.
He is survived by his children, April (Thomas) McDanel, Solon, and Jennifer (Nick) Wolfe, of Fairfax, his granddaughter, Alexis McDanel, and his brother, Richard (Kathy) Schenk of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the Winfield Scott Township Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant.
