Postseason High School Softball
In Class 3A Region 8, Central Lee fell to West Liberty last night, 8-0. The Hawks finished the season with a 15-21 record.
Washington’s late-season run continued last night as the Demons collected their 12th victory over their last 13 games, defeating Davis County 7-4. Colbie Greiner clouted a two-run homer at the plate and notched 13 strikeouts in the complete game effort. The Demons will play West Liberty tomorrow, July 11th, at 7 pm on the road.
Mediapolis’s Payton Harris allowed only two hits and struck out eight last night, as the Bullettes shocked Centerville, 1-0. Avery Bandy tabbed the lone RBI.
Fairfield crushed Mid-Prairie last night, 8-0. Leah Helmick smacked a home run for three RBIs in the winning effort. The Trojans will host Mediapolis tomorrow at 7 pm.
In Class 4A Region 5, Fort Madison advanced to the semifinals after thumping Keokuk, 12-5. The Bloodhounds will travel to North Scott tomorrow at 7 pm.
#12 Burlington will welcome Central DeWitt tomorrow at 7 pm.
In Class 4A Region 7, Mt. Pleasant fell to Oskaloosa last night, 8-1. Paityn Ensminger claimed the lone RBI for the Panthers. Mt. Pleasant finished the season with a 10-19 record.
In Class 1A Region 8, #14 Holy Trinity Catholic will look to avenge their semifinal loss last year with a matchup against #9 Wayne on the road tonight at 7 pm. Crusader head coach Loren Menke knows his team will give it their all,
“Well, we just want to go and compete. We want to make sure we give our best effort, and we know Wayne’s a really good program, really good team. But we feel like we’re also a really good team, and so we’re going in there. We expect to win. We’re going in there to win.”
In Class 2A Region 3, Van Buren County will compete against Regina Catholic tonight at 7 pm.
High School Softball Rankings
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the finals rankings for Classes 3A, 4A, and 5A yesterday for the 2026 season and Burlington climbed up to #12 in the Class 4A standings.
The Grayhounds finished the regular season with a 24-6 record and reclaimed their Southeast Conference crown, going 13-2 in conference play. Six of Burlington’s starters tout a batting average about 0.300, while Kylee Hill’s six home runs and 33 RBIs lead the team. Hill has also been lights out from the circle, notching 137 strikeouts and 1.64 ERA in 94 innings of work.
Postseason High School Baseball
In Class 1A Substate 6 District 11, Burlington Notre Dame will travel to Sigourney tomorrow, July 11th, at 7 pm for the District Championship. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.
In Class 2A Substate 4 District 8, Mediapolis will make the trip back to Regina Catholic for a matchup against the Regals at 7 pm tomorrow.
In Class 2A Substate 5 District 9, Central Lee will host Albia tomorrow at 7 pm.
In Class 3A Substate 3, Washington will travel to Clear Creek Amana tonight at 7 pm.
In Class 3A Substate 5, Fairfield will make the trip to Williamsburg tonight at 7 pm.

In Class 3A Substate 6, Fort Madison will take on Marion on the road tonight at 7 pm.
Mt. Pleasant Cross Country
Summer runs are underway for the Mt. Pleasant Cross Country team. These runs are optional but a great way to run with others and get in shape for the fall season. The runs are available to anyone entering 7th through 12th grades. Coaches may not be present at every run, as they are often led by upperclassmen.
On Mondays, the runs will take place at 6:30 am at the Old Threshers Museum Theatre. Wednesdays will be high school speed day at 7 am at Mapleleaf and Tuesdays and Thursdays will take place at Saunders Park by the swimming pool at 7 pm.
The runs will continue through the middle of August until the Mt. Pleasant Cross County camp. If you have any questions, you can contact Coach Lyle Murray at 319-850-0867.
Local Athletic Camps
Mt. Pleasant will be hosting their volleyball camps starting in late July at the high school gym. The youth camp for grades 3rd through 6th will run from July 20th through the 22nd from 5:30 to 7 pm. The camp cutoff date is July 15th.

The middle school camp for grades 7th and 8th and the high school camp for 9th through 12th graders will run August 3rd through the 5th with the middle school going from 4 to 5:30 pm and the high school to follow from 6 to 8 pm. The cutoff date is July 23rd.

Prospect League
The Burlington Bees swept the Normal CornBelters in a home doubleheader last night, winning game one 2-1 and taking game two 9-3. Rowan Bergeron slugged a home run and collected two RBIs in the game two victory. The Bees will fly to play the CornBelters tonight at 6:30 pm.
The Clinton LumberKings extended their winning streak to five games after beating the Alton River Dragons last night, 13-3. The LumberKings will look for the series sweep at home tonight at 6:30 pm.
