The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that a Keokuk Community School District school bus was involved in an accident in the 3500 block of Argyle Road at 1:50pm this afternoon (Friday, 8/28/26). The Sheriff’s Office and Keokuk School officials reported that four students and one district staff member, the bus driver, were injured. The bus was nearing the end of its route. Emergency personnel transported those in need and local authorities have secured the scene.
KCSD Interim Superintendent Todd Liechty worked with the KCSD Transportation Department and local authorities along with emergency services to communicate directly with the families of the passengers involved and all district families.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
Also, the district will have additional counseling services scheduled for Monday morning in the school buildings.
