Candidate Filing Deadline Today for Salem Special Election

Salem residents will vote September 22 to fill a vacant seat on the City Council.

The vacancy was created after the council accepted Blaten Kennedy’s resignation August 4. Kennedy resigned after moving outside Salem’s city limits.

The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Kennedy’s term, which ends December 31, 2027.

Anyone wishing to run for the seat must submit the required paperwork to Salem City Hall by 5 p.m. today, August 28. City Hall will be open today to accept candidate filings.

Voting will take place September 22 at the Henry County Emergency Management building in Mount Pleasant.
