A former Iowa nonprofit program director has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for stealing more than $426,000.
Jodi Dyan Spargur-Tate, 55, of Colfax, worked for Children and Families of Iowa between 2015 and 2022. As a program director, she oversaw youth, adult and displaced-worker programs supported by federal funding.
Court documents show Spargur-Tate submitted hundreds of false reimbursement requests using falsified invoices and receipts. She also redirected more than 100 payments to herself and family members to cover cellphone bills, housing costs and other personal expenses.
The thefts occurred over nearly seven years.
In addition to her prison sentence, Spargur-Tate was ordered to pay $426,837.11 in restitution. She will serve three years of supervised release after completing her prison term.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General and the Des Moines Police Department investigated the case.
