College Baseball: Wesleyan to Meet with Fontbonne

Mount Pleasant — The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team now knows their fate for the upcoming SLIAC Conference baseball tournament.

Tomorrow the Tigers, the sixth seed in the field, will hook up with third-seeded Fontbonne at Shaw Park in Clayton, Missouri.

Wesleyan went 1-3 against the Griffins this year, earning a 3-1 win on May 2nd, while falling 16-6, 4-3 and 20-0.

Fontbonne is 19-9 on the season.

First pitch tomorrow is set for 6:30 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer: Wesleyan Adds Mount Pleasant Forward

Mount Pleasant — Another Mount Pleasant senior is staying close to home.

Yesterday senior forward Dillan Malone made his commitment to Iowa Wesleyan official, signing to play soccer for the Tigers this year.

Malone leads the Panthers with four goals and eight shots on goal.

Other schools in the mix for Malone’s services included Grand View and William Penn, but the combination of playing for an up and coming program and being close to home were too good to pass up.

Iowa Wesleyan is coming off a 6-2-2 spring season.

Boys’ Golf: Panthers Claim Conference Championship:

Nick Matheney and Brevin Wilson were neck and neck for medalist honors — which in the end, really wasn’t all that bad — as the Mount Pleasant Panther boys’ golf team earned a conference championship crown at yesterday’s Southeast Conference Golf Meet in Fairfield.

Matheney finished one stroke better than that of Wilson to claim medalist honors but as it has been all season, it was about the team last night.

Matheney carded a four over-74, WIlson finished with a 75 while Reece Kempker ended his 18-hole afternoon with an 85.

Washington’s Roman Roth took third with a 77, while Isaac Vetter of Washington ended up 4th. Fairfield’s Jeremy Crile placed fifth.

The Demons placed second in the team standings, followed up by Fairfield, Keokuk and Fort Madison.

Girls’ Golf: Panther Girls Win Mount Pleasant Invite:

The Mount Pleasant girls’ golf team saw medalist honors split between Elli Liechty and Sami Wibben as they rolled to a win a the Mount Pleasant Invite at the Mount Pleasant Country Club yesterday.

Liechty and Wibben both shot 50’s, while Ryann Davidson carded a 52 to lead the Panthers.

Natalie Ames of Keokuk was runner-up with a 51, while Fort Madison was led by Ellie Schulte who shot a 57.

Mount Pleasant won the team scoring by 11 strokes, finishing with 205.

Keokuk ended with 216 and Fort Madison did not have enough players for a team score.

Girls’ Soccer: Perfect Season Ended for Panthers

Washington — The Mount Pleasant girls’ soccer team lost their perfect season yesterday, falling to Washington 4-3 in extra time.

The Panthers led 2-nil after the first half but saw the Demons score three times in the second half and once more in overtime to rally for their sixth win.

The loss moves Mount Pleasant to 8-1.

They’ll be off until next Monday when they meet up with Burlington Notre Dame.

Kick is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

 

 

Boys’ Soccer: Mount Pleasant Blanked by Washington

Mount Pleasant — Washington senior Zac Stout scored two goals as the Demons took down the Mount Pleasant boys’ soccer team yesterday at East Lake Park.

Erick Ortez tallied the other Demon score, as Washington improved to 8-4.

Mount Pleasant registered three shots on goal — they’ve been blanked in three straight.

Now 2-11, the Panthers will look to get off the schnid next week against top-ranked Burlington Notre Dame.

They’ll play at 7:00 p.m. next Monday.

College Baseball: Wesleyan Falls in Final Regular Season Games

Mount Pleasant — The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team fell in both of their final regular season games last night to third-ranked Webster at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.

In game one, Webster put six runs in the 3rd inning en route to a 10-1 victory.

Wesleyan tied the game at one apiece in the bottom of the 2nd on a Erik Kiewiet RBI single.

From there, the Gorloks scored nine unanswered runs.

Charles Shockley took the loss for the the Tigers, working five innings allowing ten hits and nine runs — only three earned — while striking out two.

Jake Leonard had two hits for Wesleyan in the loss.

In game two, the Gorloks scored runs in each of the first six innings as they picked up a 17-0 win.

RJ LaRocca got the scoring started in the first inning on a steal of home as Webster never looked back.

The Gorloks scored five times in the the 2nd and 4th innings while adding three in the 5th and two in the 6th.

Their pitching staff combined for a two-hit shutout.

Dominic Gerace and Michael Noonan had the lone base hits, both singles, for the Tigers.

Clayton Lathen was the losing pitcher working just two innings allowing seven hits and six runs.

Wesleyan closes their regular season with 8-19.

They now turn their focus to the first round of the SLIAC Conference Tournament, which is slated for Thursday afternoon.

Girls’ Golf: Robu Wins Conference Crown

Fort Madison — Holy Trinity’s Alli Robu finished with an 18-over 90 to claim the Super Conference Girls’ Golf crown yesterday at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison.

Robu finished just one stroke better than that of New London’s Taylor Phillips who ended her 18 hole day with a 91.

Columbus’ Jobie Lekwa and Natalie Wilcox of Danville each carded 96’s — that broke the schools’ 18-hole record — while Sophie Mallot finished with a 98 to round out the top-five yesterday.

New London won the team title ending their afternoon with 404 strokes, 52 to the good of second place Danville.

Louisa-Muscatine finished third, while Van Buren and Highland rounded out the top-five.

Abbie Cooley led Winfield-Mount Union, while Taryn Miller was the top finisher for Mediapolis.

Boys’ Tennis: Panthers Fall to Burlington

New London — The Mount Pleasant boys’ tennis team fell in a close conference dual to Burlington, dropping a 5-4 decision.

Levi Graber picked up Mount Pleasant’s first win in No. 3 singles, winning 8-4, while Linc Henriksen and Jake Ensminger also earned singles victories.

Mount Pleasant’s lone doubles win came from Jack Schimmelpfennig and Levi Graber, who cruised to an 8-2 win.

The loss dropped the Panthers to 4-7.
