Boys’ Golf: Panthers Claim Conference Championship:

Nick Matheney and Brevin Wilson were neck and neck for medalist honors — which in the end, really wasn’t all that bad — as the Mount Pleasant Panther boys’ golf team earned a conference championship crown at yesterday’s Southeast Conference Golf Meet in Fairfield.

Matheney finished one stroke better than that of Wilson to claim medalist honors but as it has been all season, it was about the team last night.

Matheney carded a four over-74, WIlson finished with a 75 while Reece Kempker ended his 18-hole afternoon with an 85.

Washington’s Roman Roth took third with a 77, while Isaac Vetter of Washington ended up 4th. Fairfield’s Jeremy Crile placed fifth.

The Demons placed second in the team standings, followed up by Fairfield, Keokuk and Fort Madison.

Girls’ Golf: Panther Girls Win Mount Pleasant Invite:

The Mount Pleasant girls’ golf team saw medalist honors split between Elli Liechty and Sami Wibben as they rolled to a win a the Mount Pleasant Invite at the Mount Pleasant Country Club yesterday.

Liechty and Wibben both shot 50’s, while Ryann Davidson carded a 52 to lead the Panthers.

Natalie Ames of Keokuk was runner-up with a 51, while Fort Madison was led by Ellie Schulte who shot a 57.

Mount Pleasant won the team scoring by 11 strokes, finishing with 205.

Keokuk ended with 216 and Fort Madison did not have enough players for a team score.

College Baseball: Wesleyan to Meet with Fontbonne:

The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team now knows their fate for the upcoming SLIAC Conference baseball tournament.

Tomorrow the Tigers, the sixth seed in the field, will hook up with third-seeded Fontbonne at Shaw Park in Clayton, Missouri.

Wesleyan went 1-3 against the Griffins this year, earning a 3-1 win on May 2nd, while falling 16-6, 4-3 and 20-0.

Fontbonne is 19-9 on the season.

First pitch tomorrow is set for 6:30 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer: Wesleyan Adds Mount Pleasant Forward:

Another Mount Pleasant senior is staying close to home.

Yesterday senior forward Dillan Malone made his commitment to Iowa Wesleyan official, signing to play soccer for the Tigers this year.

Malone leads the Panthers with four goals and eight shots on goal.

Other schools in the mix for Malone’s services included Grand View and William Penn, but the combination of playing for an up and coming program and being close to home were too good to pass up.

Iowa Wesleyan is coming off a 6-2-2 spring season.
