Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant Varsity Softball squared off with Fort Madison in a doubleheader Thursday night. Ella McNamee pitched 2.2 innings in Game 1, allowing 4 runs with 3 earned. Emma Starr was 1 for 1 with a sacrifice. The Panthers were defeated in Game 1 by a score of 12-0. Madison Helling pitched 6 innings in Game 2 for Mount Pleasant, allowing 15 runs with 8 earned. Jersey Beachy went 1 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Emma Starr was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Mount Pleasant was defeated by a score of 15-6 in Game 2. Panther Softball will be back on the field tonight when they go on the road to take on Holy Trinity Catholic. The first game is set to begin at 5:00 PM with the second to follow at 7:00 PM.

Mount Pleasant Varsity Baseball was defeated by Fort Madison in both games of a doubleheader last night in Fort Madison. The Panthers were defeated in the first game by a score of 5-3 and they were defeated 4-3 in the second game. Mount Pleasant Baseball will be back on the field on Monday night as they will have a doubleheader at home against Washington. The first game will begin at 5:30 PM with the second game to follow at 7:30 PM and you can catch live coverage of both games on 105.5 KILJ.

New London

New London Varsity Softball was defeated by Central Lee by a score of 12-0 Thursday night at Central Lee High School. Tiger Softball will be back on the field tonight as they will travel to Wapello to take on the Arrows. That game is set to begin at 7:00 PM.

New London Varsity Baseball remains undefeated after a 17-4 win over Central Lee Thursday night. Senior Kooper Schulte went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Senior Ryan Richey went 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs. The 14-0 New London Tigers will be back on the field tonight as they will travel to Davenport North High School to take on the Wildcats. That game is scheduled to start at 5:30 PM.

Iowa Wesleyan Men’s Basketball

Iowa Wesleyan Men’s Basketball will host a 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament on July 4th at Ruble Arena on the Iowa Wesleyan University campus in Mount Pleasant. All ages are welcome from 3rd grade on through adult ages. There will be a DJ playing music during the event and concession stand availability. The cost to enter is $60 per team. Each team must have at least 3 players with a maximum of 4 players. Payment is required before the start of the first game. Checks can be made payable to Iowa Wesleyan Men’s Basketball. Each athlete must sign a waiver of liability and complete a health information form prior to competing. That form can be sent via email (listed below).

NBA

The NBA has crowned a champion. The Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA Finals Thursday night. Warriors guard Stephen Curry had 34 points and hit multiple crucial three’s to lift the Warriors to their 5th championship in franchise history and their 4th in the last 8 years.. Curry was awarded the Finals MVP.

Game 6 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics is tonight. Golden State leads the series 3-2. Game 6 is set to begin at 9 ET/8 CT. The Warriors won Game 5 104-94. The Warriors are looking to win their 4th Championship in the last 7 years.

MLB

The Atlanta Braves will go for their 14th straight win tonight as they will wrap up a series against Washington. It’s the longest winning streak in the majors this season. “It’s a good feeling. You feel like you’re on top of the world when you keep winning every night,” rookie outfielder Michael Harris II said.

NFL

NBC Sports has announced that former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett will replace Drew Brees as an analyst on “Football Night in America.” Garrett has been working as an analyst for USFL games on NBC since April. Drew Brees left NBC after one season to spend more time with his family in retirement. Brees was also the color commentator for Notre Dame football games on NBC.

Senior Cooper Keldgord pitched 4.2 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned on 5 hits with 5 walks and striking out 4. Mount Pleasant was victorious in Game 2 of the night by a score of 3-2. Senior Lincoln Henriksen turned in a 1 for 3 performance at the plate in Game 2. Sophomore Ben Newton pitched 4 full innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks and striking out 1. New London Varsity Baseball was victorious over Pekin by a score of 10-0 Monday night. Senior Camden Kasel was 1 for 1 at the plate with 2 RBIs, a walk, and a home run. Senior Seth Bailey pitched the complete 5-inning game, allowing 2 hits and striking out 5. Parker Testa had a chance to speak with New London Head Coach Brad Helmerson following the game and he had this to say on what he liked from his team’s performance. “Cam started with a home run there early and then we kind of got rolling from there. Fundamental baseball is what got us here and that’s what’s hopefully going to take us the rest of the way.” 12-0 New London will be back on the field tonight as they will take on Cardinal on the road. That game is set to begin at 7:00 PM.

Winfield-Mt. Union Varsity Softball was defeated by Louisa-Muscatine 11-1 Monday night. Wolves Softball will be back in action tonight as they will host Mediapolis. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.

NBA

The Golden State Warriors were victorious over the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA Finals 104-94 to take a 3-2 series lead. Warriors guard Stephen Curry’s streak of 233 straight games with a 3-pointer made ended as Curry shot 0 for 9 from beyond the arc.

2010 – The 2010 FIFA World Cup began at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was the first World Cup to be played in Africa. Spain won the World Cup a month later.
