A Burlington man faces a felony drug charge following a traffic stop Saturday night in Des Moines County.
According to the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at the intersection of Summer and Dodge streets at approximately 9:29 p.m. on June 6.
Authorities say a sheriff’s K-9 unit conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics. During the investigation, deputies searched a passenger identified as 60-year-old Terry Eugene Wixom of Burlington.
Deputies reported finding a bag containing cocaine in Wixom’s pocket. He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense.
Wixom was transported to the Des Moines County Correctional Center and held pending further court proceedings.
As in all criminal cases, the charge is merely an accusation, and Wixom is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
