HCSO: Driver Cited in Hit-and-Run in Salem

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle accident hit-and-run at 1465 Salem Road. The offending vehicle was described as a dark gray Chevrolet pickup truck travelling west bound from Salem.

According to a Sheriff’s Office Press Release, the vehicle was travelling west bound on Salem Road when it went off the roadway, struck multiple street signs, a mailbox, and a speed limit sign before re-entering the roadway and continuing west bound.

The vehicle and driver were located shortly thereafter a couple miles from the scene of the accident. Dylan Helmick of Hillsboro admitted to operating the vehicle during the time of the accident. Helmick consented to a Standard Field Sobriety Test and it was determined he was not impaired.  Helmick received citations for failure to maintain control, leaving the scene of an accident and striking fixtures upon a highway, and open container – 21YRS old and older.
