College Football: Wesleyan Battles, Falls to No. 20 Vikings

Mount Pleasant — Iowa Wesleyan trailed by just seven at halftime, but clutch carries by Justice Bice helped the No. 20 Valley City State Vikings to a 28-14 win over the Tigers, Saturday.

Bice finished with 31 carries for 152 yards and one touchdown.

Set to go into halftime tied, Wesleyan, backed up near the own goal line, tried to get a score before the break and saw their quarterback get intercepted, leading to a Viking touchdown with just :44 seconds remaining before half.

The Vikings extended their lead to 21 in the fourth quarter before Wesleyan clawed back with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Hezekiah Hunter, his second of the day.

Wesleyan quarterback Gavin Esquivel finished 20-for-46 for 206 yards, one touchdown and two picks.

Hunter finished with 100 scrimmage yards on 25 touches and two scores.

Damien Tanelus hauled in four catches for 48 yards.

The loss drops Wesleyan to 0-5, the Tigers will welcome in Crown this Saturday for their homecoming matchup.

Kick is set for 1:00 p.m.
