The 6-mile, $4.9 million dollar road project on Franklin Avenue will begin on Monday, April 22. The Henry County Engineer’s Office suggests motorists avoid Franklin Avenue (W-55) from the Skunk River Bridge at Oakland Mills South to Jackson Street in Salem. A detour will be in place and sections of the road will be completely closed at times during this construction phase.
Work on the section of Franklin Avenue involves culvert replacements, dirt work and shoulder widening. The entire project will be on going through 2024. Ideally, the entire project is expected to be completed by the end of the year: however, the weather could be a factor.
Another traffic announcement: On Monday, April 22, the on ramp to northbound Highway 218 from Washington Street, East of Mt. Pleasant, will be closed from 9am-3pm.
