Derek Mullin to run for school board seat

Derek Mullin announced today that he will be taking out papers to run

for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District Board Director 1 position

being vacated by Martha Wiley.   He will begin gathering signatures on

August 23rd. Director District 1 encompasses homes on the west side of Mt. Pleasant,

north to the school district boundary and south to the district school

boundary, excluding Salem and Oakland Mills.  However, all residents of the

Mt. Pleasant Community School District vote for the entire slate of candidates.

Mullin currently serves on the Ag Task Force which has raised money

to bring back Agriculture classes and FFA at the Mt. Pleasant Community

High School.   He and his wife, Tina, also have three children who

attend Mt. Pleasant Community District Schools:   Caden, a 7th grader at the

Middle School; Charlize, a 5th grader at Harlan Elementary and Cuyler, a 2nd

grader at Harlan. “As a parent with three children in the District, I want to see that the

students in our District receive the best education possible.  As a former

Industrial Technology teacher at the Mt. Pleasant Community High School,

I also am committed to helping expand the Career and Technical Education

offerings in our District,” said Mullin. School board elections will be held on Tuesday, November 2, in conjunction

with municipal elections.
