A Mt. Pleasant resident is seeking the Democratic nomination for Iowa House of Representatives in District 87. Mike Heaton is the only Democrat who has filed papers to run in the June 7 primary. Two Republicans will appear on the primary ballot. They are Joe Mitchell of Mount Pleasant and Jeff Shipley of Birmingham. Henry County was previously all in the same Legislative District and now the map approved by legislation has Salem Township, Tippecanoe Township and Center Township including the cities within them in State House District 87. The other part of the County that includes the townships of Jackson, Baltimore, New London, Trenton, Marion, Canaan, Scott, Wayne, and Jefferson and the cities within them are now in State House District 95. Republican Taylor Collins of Mediapolis is the only candidate running for the District 95 seat.
