Mediapolis Burglary Investigation

On the morning of May 15, 2021, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Larue Boutique and Jilly’s Coffee & Cakes located in the 500 block of Main Street in Mediapolis, in reference to burglaries discovered at the businesses.

Upon investigation it was found that the businesses had been entered during the overnight hours and cash and a lockbox had been taken during the burglaries.  The business owners were able to provide Deputies with surveillance video of a suspect and had also posted an image of the suspect on social media.  Through the video and images gathered from the businesses, and with the assistance of citizens assisting in identifying the suspect, Deputies were able to identify the male in the video as Tyler Johnson, DOB 6/23/1990, of Mediapolis.

Des Moines County Detectives were able to locate Tyler Johnson in a vehicle and a traffic stop was performed.  During an interview with Tyler Johnson, Johnson admitted to entering both businesses and taking money and a lockbox.  During a subsequent search of the vehicle over $800 in cash was recovered and was determined to be cash stolen from the businesses.  The lock box was also located by Detectives at another location in Mediapolis.

Tyler Johnson was placed under arrest for 2 counts of 3rd Degree Burglary, both class D felonies, and was transported to the Des Moines County Correctional Center.  Johnson is being held on a $5,000 bond.
