Mid-Am Awarded Tax Benefits Hoping to Buy Property for Expansion

The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board has approved awards for nine established companies, which will assist in the creation of 216 jobs and result in almost $103 million in new capital investment for the state, two of the nine from here in the southeast corner of the State.

Mid-Am Building Supply was awarded tax benefits through the HQJ program to construct a new facility in Mount Pleasant. Operating in Mount Pleasant since 1984, Mid-Am Building Supply is a “two-step” building material distributor that sells building materials to lumber yards and big box stores throughout the Midwest, with five warehouses in four states. Representing a capital investment of just over $8.6 million, It is expected to create eight jobs, of which two are incented at a qualifying wage of $17.70 per hour. Wednesday night the Mount Pleasant City Council will be asked to approve the sale of the last 3 lots in the Crossroads Industrial to Mid-Am for construction of that new facility.

Also receiving tax benefits was Bazooka Farmstar in Washington, who manufactures manure handling equipment for customers throughout the U.S. and Canada. They plan to construct a 37,500 square foot expansion at their facility to accommodate a new paint booth and wash bay. The $6 million capital investment project is expected to create 30 jobs at a qualifying wage of $20.92 per. hour.
