A Mount Pleasant man is facing charges following an assault reported late on the night of July 16th.
According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence at 302 South Main Street at approximately 10:47 p.m. for a reported assault.
Police say 33-year-old Antwaun Devante Silva of Mount Pleasant became involved in a verbal altercation with the landlord’s brother, who had been staying at the residence for about three weeks. During the argument, another resident, identified as William Ishiah-Morgan Fuller, became involved.
According to court documents, Silva allegedly stepped toward Fuller and attempted to intimidate him by puffing out his chest. Fuller stood up and pushed Silva back, and the two men then wrestled to the ground, exchanging punches. Investigators say Silva ended up on top of Fuller during the fight.
The landlord’s brother reportedly attempted to separate the two men but was unsuccessful. He then struck Silva with a baseball bat, causing Silva to release Fuller and leave the residence.
Officers reported observing what appeared to be defensive injuries on Fuller’s forearms. Silva told police that none of the punches he threw made contact with anyone. Court records also indicate Silva was in the process of being evicted from the residence.
Silva was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor. The charge is an allegation, and Silva is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
