Nathan J. “Shorty” Fetterman (final arrangements)

Nathan J. “Shorty” Fetterman, 88 of Salem passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

Shorty was born on August 12, 1933, in Lee County, Iowa, the son of Hubert and Versa (Clark) Fetterman. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Shorty was united in marriage to Genevieve “Gee Gee” Wesely on August 31, 1953, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant. He worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 45 years. Shorty loved working the land on the farm and raising his farm animals. He was the most happiest when he was outside fishing and hunting. He was a hard worker, but also a soft spoken and gentle loving man. Shorty loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Gee Gee of 68 years, his children, Becky (Jack) Thornton of Salem, Randy Fetterman of Oquawka, Illinois, his grandchildren, Megan (Jarod) Conrad, Tasha (Tommy) Thornton, Brandon Fetterman and Matthew Fetterman, his great grandchildren, Chayse, Lakota and Julian, a sister-in-law, Mary Fetterman of Trenton, along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. The family will not be present. Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church of Mt. Pleasant and the Salem Fire and Rescue Association in his memory. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later time.
