NWS: Flash Flood Watch Until 10am & 24-Hour Rainfall Amounts

A flash flood watch issued by the NWS is in effect until 10am this morning for portions of southeast Iowa: Henry County, Des Moines County, Jefferson, Lee, and Van Buren Counties.  Thunderstorms producing heavy rain across these areas have produced 2-3 inches of rain with additional rainfall amounts of up to 3 inches possible.  Flash flooding is ongoing. The impact includes flash flooding of small creeks, highways, streets, and underpasses.  The flood watch continues for the Skunk River at Augusta affecting Henry, Lee, and Des Moines Counties and the North Skunk River near Sigourney affecting Keokuk County.

Rainfall amounts during the past 24 hours (as of 5:00am Saturday, 8/15/26):

  • Mt. Pleasant 2.72 – 3 inches
  • Rome 3.03 – 3.50 inches
  • Trenton 2.56 inches
  • South of MP along Hwy 218 around 2.50 inches
