Huge Success, Huge Appreciation!

The Mount Pleasant School District Music Program saw the power of community Wednesday night during a fundraising event on KILJ Radio. $52,157 was raised in just three hours thanks to support from individuals, families, organizations and businesses.  The goal was $30,000 for new uniforms and formal wear. The Music Boosters now have the funds to purchase a much needed trailer for the program.  And when you consider that a tuba costs about $8,000, there are now additional funds to continue the support of music k thru 12.

Girls’ Prep Basketball: Panthers Ride Big 3 to Win:

Mount Pleasant relied on their Big 3: Andrea Lopreato, Tristian Shull and Kenna Lamm — ousting Fort Madison 63-57 in overtime last night in a Class 4A first round matchup.

The win advanced Mount Pleasant to Saturday’s second round where they’ll get SEC champion Keokuk.

Lopreato finished with a game-high 25 for Mount Pleasant, while Lamm and Shull both chipped in with 15 each.

Mount Pleasant, who led for the entirety of the game, saw the script get flipped in the fourth when Fort Madison got up 44-40.

The Panthers then buckled down on defense, getting a pair of steals that led to scores tying the game in a matter of moments.

They then forced a Malarie Ross missed layup at the end of the regulation to force overtime.

In the extra period, it was all Panthers.

Threes by Lamm and Shull in the tiebreaker propelled the Panthers to their fourth straight win, they’re now 13-10.

The loss ended Fort Madison’s season at 17-5.

You can listen to Saturday’s game on FM 98.5 and AM 1130.

The contest will begin at 7:00 p.m..

John Kuhens and Kent Bennett will have the call.

The Braves, state finalists last year, rolled to a 63-46 victory over Pekin on Monday.

In District 9, top-seeded Danville gets upset-minded Burlington Notre Dame.

The Nikes took down Wapello 55-30 earlier this week.

Pursuit Ends in Arrests

On 2/13/22 at approximately 1:48 hours, the Mt Pleasant Police attempted to stop a vehicle near the 200 block of E Washington St in Mt Pleasant for a traffic violation.

The vehicle failed to stop and continued on E Washington St at high speeds. The plates did not match the vehicle. As the pursuit continued, bags of drugs were thrown out the windows of the vehicle. The vehicle continued east and turned onto Oakberry Ave and failed to make a turn and crashed.

Both occupants were taken into custody with issue. They were both transported to the Henry County Health Center for treatment by ambulance. They were identified as Justin Weir of Keokuk and Tyler Hammond of Mt Pleasant.

The Mt Pleasant PD was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, New London PD, and Breuer Towing.

Items thrown out were located, a subsequent warrant for the vehicle was conducted and charges are pending. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.

**A Criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty**

Daily Jail Count

In the interest of keeping Henry County residents informed, the Henry County Sheriff’s office has requested KILJ post the daily jail count. During the jail referendum campaign it was publicized that the jail would be able to house additional inmates from surrounding counties and this would generate revenue for Henry County.
