On 2/13/22 at approximately 1:48 hours, the Mt Pleasant Police attempted to stop a vehicle near the 200 block of E Washington St in Mt Pleasant for a traffic violation.
The vehicle failed to stop and continued on E Washington St at high speeds. The plates did not match the vehicle. As the pursuit continued, bags of drugs were thrown out the windows of the vehicle. The vehicle continued east and turned onto Oakberry Ave and failed to make a turn and crashed.
Both occupants were taken into custody with issue. They were both transported to the Henry County Health Center for treatment by ambulance. They were identified as Justin Weir of Keokuk and Tyler Hammond of Mt Pleasant.
The Mt Pleasant PD was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, New London PD, and Breuer Towing.
Items thrown out were located, a subsequent warrant for the vehicle was conducted and charges are pending. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
