Sinclair Tractor Raises $600,000 for Food Banks

Think back to Saturday, June 24th, 2023. Many were probably relaxing on their couches, mowing the lawn, or enjoying a beautiful day outside. Sinclair Tractor was celebrating their 25th anniversary at McMillan Park in Mt. Pleasant and working towards an important cause while doing so.

Over 10,000 customers flocked to Mt. Pleasant to join in the celebration, which included food, live music, and a way to give back to the food banks in the communities Sinclair Tractor serves.

Thanks to the generosity of Sinclair Tractor employees, customers, suppliers and friends, the tractor dealership’s 25th anniversary raised $600,000 to support food banks serving southeast Iowa, western Illinois and northern Missouri. Those food banks include Food Bank of Iowa, HACAP Food Reservoir, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, River Bend Food Bank and The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri.

“We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from Sinclair Tractor, which will impact countless lives,” said Food Bank of Iowa CEO Michelle Book. “We are honored that so many different community members came together to contribute to this gift and invest in ending hunger throughout the region.”

“Celebrating 25 years with our employees, customers and suppliers was wonderful,” said Sinclair Tractor CEO Bob Sinclair. “But leveraging our company’s milestone to combat hunger in our corner of the world made it magical.”

Iowa Basketball Earning Praise Through a Week of Play

Iowa City, IA- Basketball is starting to take over the University of Iowa with both the men’s and women’s teams boasting undefeated records and the women’s team ranked #2 in the nation. With the team success on the hardwood, individual praise is starting to accumulate.

Caitlin Clark was named Big Ten Player of the Week after leading her team in scoring for each of their three wins against FDU, #8 Virginia Teach, and Northern Iowa.

The highlight of her week was passing Megan Gustafson for Iowa’s all-time scoring record in her 12th career triple-double win against Northern Iowa. Clark averaged 32 points, 9 assists, and 8.3 rebounds per game for the week with only four turnovers.

Clark has earned 19 weekly conference awards in her career, which is third-most in Big Ten history.

The Hawkeyes will face off against Kansas State this Thursday, November 16th, at 7:30 pm.

The men’s team is off to a 2-0 start and a good reason for that is the emergent play of freshman Owen Freeman, who was tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Freeman is averaging 11 points and three rebounds through the first two games, which has included some rim-rattling dunks.

The Hawkeyes will be tested tonight in a battle against #8 Creighton in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.

Great Week for Farming in Iowa According the Crop Progress and Condition Report

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig commented on the Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. The report is released weekly April through November. Additionally, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship provides a weather summary each week during this time.

“The unseasonably warm and dry weather this past week offered Iowa farmers another suitable stretch to finish up harvest and tackle other farm work,” said Sec. Naig. “We expect warmer temperatures to hang around this week, though forecasts show a more active storm track as we approach Thanksgiving.”

The weekly report is also available on the USDA’s website at nass.usda.gov.

Topsoil moisture condition rated 17 percent very short, 41 percent short, 41 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 27 percent very short, 42 percent short, 30 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus.
