High School Postseason Baseball

In Class 1A Substate 5: District 9, Burlington Notre Dame and Moravia participated in a pitchers duel over the weekend with the Nikes sneaking past the Mohawks 4-3 after 8 innings of play. Moravia had the only source of offense for the first 5 innings with Matthew Seals clobbering a baseball over the left-center field fence for a solo home run.

The Nikes would tie the game after Landry Haberichter led off the 6th inning with a triple. Caden Schwenker would hit a sacrifice fly for the lone RBI of the contest for the Nikes. After a scoreless 7th inning, the Mohawks managed two runs in the 8th inning to take a 3 to 1 lead. The Nikes were down to their last out in the bottom of the 8th inning with the bases empty, then magic happened.

Spencer Brent reached on an error, then a single by Schwenker and a couple more errors led to Brent scoring and bringing the game within one, 3 to 2. Another error, a single, and a walk had the game locked at 3. Two passed balls led to Logan Brent crossing home plate for the walk off.
