In Class 3A Substate 5, Mt. Pleasant played host to Fairfield for a conference matchup. It was the Trojans who struck first as Landon Nodurft collected an RBI on a single and Cody Birlson doubled home a run in the 3rd inning to take a 2 to 0 lead. The Panthers would answer back in the bottom of the 4th inning with Carter Amos and Garrett Cook each clocking RBI doubles to tie the game.

Amos would step up to the plate again in the 6th inning and smack another RBI double to take a 3 to 2 lead. The Trojans were down to their final three outs. The Panthers managed to get two of those outs but a leadoff single and two walks left the bases loaded with two outs away. That’s when Tallon Bates was hit by a pitch, which scored the game tying run. The Panthers allowed no runs in the top of the 8th inning and had runners on first and second with two outs before the rain started falling, leading to play being suspended until today at 2 pm. KILJ will continue its coverage.
