The week 6 Iowa High School Volleyball Rankings compiled by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union was released yesterday and here are the big movements. Stating in Class 1A, Springville did not relinquish their number 1 spot, but Burlington Notre Dame moved up in the rankings from 5th to 3rd as they have tallied up a record of 26-9. Holy Trinity Catholic also moved up in the rankings, as they were ranked 12th last week the Crusaders now find themselves in 10th. New London slipped in the rankings moving from 11th to 15th. Stanton and Riverside dropped out of the Top 15, East Mills (14th) and North Cedar (11th) moved into the Top 15.

Class 2A didn’t see any movement in the top 2 as Dike-New Hartford and Western Christian stayed put. However, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont fell from 3rd to 5th. West Burlington also experienced a move down the rankings as they are now 11th when they were 8th a week ago. South Hardin replaced Lake Mills in the 15th slot.

Class 3A was the most consistent as there was no movement in the first 7 slots, with Des Moines Christian keeping the top spot. The first movement was Osage leapfrogging Solon from 9th to 8th. Sheldon was ranked 11th last week, they are now out of the Top 15 and Vinton-Shellsburg entered the rankings at 15th.

Class 4A much of the same as the top 4 teams did not move with the order: Cedar Rapids Xavier, North Scott, Marion, and Western Dubuque. Lewis Central went from 5th last week to 13th and Clear Creek-Amana also fell to 12th from 6th a week ago. Knoxville (14th) is the new team in the rankings with Bishop Heelan dropping out of the Top 15.

Class 5A had the biggest shakeup at the top with Pleasant Valley (3rd) being dethroned by Iowa City Liberty as they were ranked 2nd last week. Waukee was the only team to drop out of the Top 15 with Sioux City East going from unranked to 13th for this week.

High School Volleyball

New London fell in a dramatic match last night to West Burlington 2 sets to 3, the scores were 25-20, 16-25, 25-27, 25-19, and 15-17. The Falcon offense was led by senior Sophia Armstrong who had 33 kills and Abbey Bence who had 67 assists on the night. New London will be hosting a tournament tomorrow and West Burlington will be participating with a rematch set for 9 am.

Winfield-Mt. Union defeated Louisa-Muscatine in straight sets 25-15, 25-10, and 25-12. Melina Oepping led the team in kills with 11, followed by Bradie Buffington with 6 kills. Keetyn Townsley had 5 serving aces, and Keely Malone had 18 assists. Their record is now 17-7 and they will be competing tomorrow at the New London Tournament.

WACO got their 20^th win of the season when they defeated Wapello in straight sets last night 25-16, 25-20, and 25-18. Emma Wagler and Ellah Kissell tied for the team lead in kills with 9. Grace Coble tallied 30 assists on the night. The Warriors next game will be October 4^th at 7:30 pm against Winfield-Mt. Union.

Holy Trinity Catholic is now 17-8 on the season after they defeated Van Buren County in straight sets 25-9, 25-19, and 25-16. Anna Bendlage had 18 assists on the night and Mary Kate Bendlage tallied 8 kills against the Warriors. The Crusaders next game will be senior night when they host Central Lee on October 4^th at 7:30 pm.

Burlington Notre Dame moved up to 3^rd place in the Iowa High School Volleyball Rankings compiled by the Iowa girls High School Athletic Union. Holy Trinity Catholic moved from 12^th to 10^th and New London clung on to the Top 15 as they slid from 11^th to 15^th.

High School Football

The Mount Pleasant Panthers are back at home tonight, September 30^th, to play Iowa City Liberty, a team ranked in the Top 10 for Class 4A football. The Panthers look to kickstart their offense again and capture their first win of the season in upset fashion. The game will be on KILJ with pregame at 7:15 pm, kickoff at 7:30.

WACO is on the road this week as they face off against Lone Tree, who is fresh off a crushing loss to Winfield-Mt. Union. The Warriors look to go 7-0 after their game tonight at 7 pm.

Winfield-Mt. Union clashes with Tri-County and New London will have a tough game at home against Iowa Valley as they try to bounce from their loss to WACO last week. Both games at 7 pm.

For other games in Mt. Pleasant’s district, North Scott is at home against Burlington and Fort Madison clashes with Clinton both games scheduled for 7:30 pm. Other area games: Washington looks to spoil Solon’s Homecoming game and Fairfield celebrates Homecoming this week as they host West Burlington, games at 7:30 pm.

Iowa Wesleyan Athletics

The Tiger volleyball team fell in a close match to Stephens College 3 sets to 1 by scores of 22-25, 25-20, 19-25, and 23-25. Malie DaMate had an excellent game for Iowa Wesleyan as she led the team in kills with 11 and assists with 14. Madison Saia had 10 kills and Leamaris Fuentes tallied 10 assists on the night for the Tigers. They will look to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to play St. Ambrose University at 2 pm.

The men’s and women’s golf teams hosted the IW Classic yesterday as the men tried to defend their win last year while the women earned 2^nd last year. This year the Tiger women finished in 4^th with a team total of 382. Aubrey Duncan and Michal Wohlleber finished tied for 6th with a shot of 88. Sami Wibben finished in 17^th, Natalie Ames in 19^th, and Keelee Razee placed in 24^th.

The Tiger men fielded two teams with Team A led by Tate Nelson who shot a 75 leading to an 8^th place finish. Brevin Wilson finished tied for 24^th, Bailey Shelledy tied for 30^th, Trace White and Brady Lukavsky both shot an 84 leading to a tie for 36^th place. The B Team was led by Colton Sherwood who finished in 36^th, Kenny Tucker placed tied for 53^rd, Nathan Cronkhite finished in 60^th, and Jacob Boomer captured 65^th place. The first time tied for 6^th overall, while the second team finished in 11^th.

The Tiger Women will be competing in the Knox Invite starting tomorrow, October 1^st, and going until Sunday in Galesburg, Illinois. The Tiger Men will compete at the Central Invite October 3^rd and 4^th.

The Tiger football team will be looking to get back on track tomorrow, October 1st, when they celebrate Homecoming against Mayville State University at 1 pm.

The women’s soccer team next game will be October 4^th as they travel to clash with the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics at 4 pm, as they look to extend their win streak to three games.

The men’s soccer team looks to get back in the win column October 5th, when they travel to play Missouri Baptist University at 2 pm.
