Prep Girls’ Basketball: Two Members of the Southeast Conference Find a Spot on the All-State Teams

Prep Girls’ Basketball- The 2024-25 Iowa High School Girls’ Basketball season is officially over after five champions were crowned this past Friday and Saturday. With play now halted until this upcoming November, the Iowa Girls Coaches Association has released their All-State Teams, and two members of the Southeast Conference earned a spot.

Class 4A

The battle between the junior duo, Keokuk’s Kendra Boatman and Burlington’s Mylee Stiefel produced some of the best basketball in the region with a buzzer beater to end one game and the other finish was pushed to overtime, both games claimed by the Grayhounds.

As the two jockeyed between the #1 and #2 slots in all of the conference statistics, they both performed well enough to grab a spot on the All-Tournament team.

For Boatman, last year’s SEC Player of the Year, may have lost the battle on the hardcourt but she did garner the higher position with an All-State 2nd Team nod. The Chief ranked 4th in the class with 20.5 points per game, 3rd in assists per game with 5.7, and 1st with 5.3 steals per game.

Boatman’s 2.3 three-pointers made per game rank 10th in 4A, while her 73.4% from the free throw line snuck in the top 50 at 40th. She also crossed the 1,000-point plateau this season as she helped lead Keokuk to the Regional Semifinals and an 18-5 record.

Stiefel turned in a successful junior campaign as she won SEC Player of the Year for leading Burlington to their first SEC title. With these honors, Stiefel was placed on the All-State 3rd Team.

She was the maestro of the offense, averaging 18.5 points and 4.3 assists per game, both marks ranked within the top 12 of Class 4A. She was efficient with her shooting, scoring on 48.4% of her shots and hitting 40.3% of her threes, which ranked 16th in the class. She also played impressive defense, forcing 2.6 steals per game, which ranked 33rd in 4A.

The success of these two should make for a highly competitive senior season as the entire conference touts a deep 2026 graduating class.
