Prep Tennis: Burlington’s Bertlshofer Claims SEC Title

Burlington — Tyce Bertlshofer won the SEC crown, defeating his teammate Rich Bleisener in the finals 6-4, 6-0 at yesterday’s Southeast Conference meet at Dankwardt Park.

Bertlshofer, the top seed in the league, swept his way to the finals before Bleisener took four games in the championship.

Mount Pleasant was led in singles play by Tim Cam, who finished in fourth.

Cam opened his day with a tiebreaker win, before being beaten by Bertlshofer in the semifinals.

He then suffered a 9-7 loss in the 3rd place match to Ivan Lopez of Keokuk.

6th seeded Elliot Cook ended in 5th place, earning consolation championship. Cook took down Keokuk’s Brenton Worster in the 5th place scrap.

In doubles action, Fairfield’s group of Jace Hannes and Garrett Flanagan were champs — besting Mount Pleasant’s tandem of Owen Vansickel and Jake Ensminger, 6-1, 6-4 in the championship.

Levi Graber and Lincoln Henriksen, both of Mount Pleasant took home the consolation championship. They won 8-3.

Mount Pleasant will play in a 1A preliminary substate dual on Friday against Maharishi, while Burlington will travel to Ottumwa for a Class 2A substate semifinal.
