High School Basketball

Mt. Pleasant took on Washington last night in a road conference matchup. In the girls’ game, the Demons utilized a full-court pressure defense and capitalized on some early steals to win 66-40. Kynlee White led the Panthers with 11 points. 

On the boys’ side, Christian Stacy (25 points) and Payton Hagans (29 points) combined for 54 points in a 70-53 win over the Demons. Head Coach Eric Rawson talked about how his guards played after the game. The Panthers will host Keokuk on December 19th with the girls going at 6 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will have the call with the pregame show at 5:45 pm. 

The Danville girls’ team handled Central Lee last night 63-37. 

The Central Lee girls team will travel to take on Columbus on December 18th at 6 pm followed by the boys’ game. 

Danville will host Louisa-Muscatine today with the boys’ playing at 2:30 pm. 

The Mediapolis girls’ team dominated #15 Burlington Notre Dame last night 70-38. Grace Holsteen made four threes as she finished with 28 points on the night for the Bulldogs. The boys’ team for the Nikes enacted revenge as they defeated Mediapolis 68-40. The Bulldogs will host Wapello on December 18th at 6 pm. 

The New London girls’ team picked up their first win of the season in a thrilling 50-48 final against West Burlington yesterday. The boys’ team for the Tigers were unable to keep up with West Burlington as the Falcons won 73-31. The New London boys’ team will take on GMG today at 5 pm at home, while the girls’s team will compete against Columbus on December 21st at 6 pm at home. 

The WACO boys’ team defeated Hillcrest Academy yesterday 59-38. The Warriors will host Lone Tree on December 19th with the girls’ team scheduled to play at 6 pm. 

Holy Trinity Catholic swept Van Buren County last night with the girls winning 60-11 and the boys taking down the Warriors 65-33. Luke Hellige led the Crusaders with 22 points on the night. The Van Buren County boys’ team will face off against West Liberty on December 18th at 7:30 pm and the girls’ team will travel to Fairfield on January 2nd at 7:30 pm. 

The Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ team fell to Columbus last night 55-20. The Wolves will take on Holy Trinity Catholic today with the girls playing at 2 pm followed by the boys. 

High School Wrestling

The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ team will compete today at Cedar Rapids-Prairie. 

The WACO girls will compete today at Chariton. 

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team will compete in a tournament today at Regina Catholic. The girls’ team will wait until after Christmas break to compete at a tournament at Highland on January 5th. 

The New London boys’ team will travel to Fort Madison today for an Invitational.

The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ team will compete next Saturday, December 23rd, at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. 

The WACO boys’ team will compete at Regina Catholic today.

High School Bowling

Mt. Pleasant will take on Washington on January 4th. 

College Football

Iowa State University will take on Memphis in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis on December 29th at 2:30 pm. The Cyclones defeated Memphis in the 2017 AutoZone Liberty Bowl 21-20. 

#20 Iowa will face off against #25 Tennessee in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on January 1st at noon. 

College Basketball

The #4 Iowa women’s team will compete against Cleveland State tonight at 6 pm. 

The Iowa State women’s team will host Troy tomorrow, December 17th, at 12 pm. 

The Iowa State men’s team will take on Florida A&M tomorrow at 5 pm. 

The Iowa men’s team will look to get back in the win column today at 3:30 pm against Florida A&M.
