Iowa Wesleyan Athletics

The women’s basketball team captured their 7th victory of the season after defeating Simpson college 80-54 on the road. The Tigers had a terrific day shooting the ball as they hit 42% of their threes and shot 47% from the field. Four of the Tiger starters scored in double digits with Kyla Moore dropping 22 points, Breanna Wendland finished with 13 points, Brielle Baker tallied 10 points, and Isabell West was a force finishing with a double-double as she had 14 points and 21 rebounds, including 4 offensive rebounds.

The men’s basketball team is now 10-1 on the season riding a 9-game win streak after dominating Waldorf 81-42 last night. However, the Tigers were only ahead 20-15 ten minutes into the game when coach Jordan Ashton called a timeout to settle his team down. Iowa Wesleyan then outscored the Warriors 26-2 to close out the half and did not look back. The Tigers had nine player score last night with Allante Pickens leading the team with 15 points followed by Henry Shannon with 14 and Victor Munoz tallying 10 points. Despite the lopsided victory, coach Ashton knows his team can do better. Both the men and women will play Saturday, December 3rd, against College of the Ozarks with the women getting the afternoon started at 1 pm with the men to follow.

The women’s wrestling team will be back in action December 7th for a top ten matchup as they will host the #3 Grand View University Vikings. The men’s wrestling team’s next match will be Saturday, December 3rd, at the Buena Vista Open starting at 9 am.

1928 – National League President John Heydler first proposed a baseball rule change calling for a 10th man, or ‘designated hitter’, to bat in place of the pitcher; ironically, the NL voted in favor of the proposal, but the American League turned it down.
