Girls’ Regional Basketball

In Class 1A Region 7, Danville will take on Calamus-Wheatland on Wednesday, February 21st, at 7 pm at Muscatine High School. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm.

In Class 3A Region 1, Mediapolis lost to Mt. Vernon 61-34 over the weekend. Hanna Wagenbach finished the game as the leading scorer for the Bulldogs with 14 points. Mediapolis finished the season with an 18-5 record.

In Class 4A Region 1, Keokuk cruised to a 43-29 victory over Fort Madison after outscoring the Bloodhounds 21 to 11 in the first quarter. Kendra Boatman tabbed 11 points in the win. Fort Madison finished with a 14-8 record. Keokuk will face off against #1 Clear Creek-Amana tomorrow, February 20th, at 7 pm on the road.

Boys’ District Basketball

Starting in Class 1A Substate 5 District 9, Burlington Notre Dame and Winfield-Mt. Union will face off tomorrow, February 20th, at 7 pm at Mediapolis High School. KILJ AM 1130, 98.5 FM, and kilj.com will be on the call.

In Substate 5 District 10, Holy Trinity Catholic will face off against North Mahaska tomorrow at 7 pm at Ottumwa Evans Middle School. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call.

Class 2A, Substate 4 District 7, West Burlington will take on West Branch at West Liberty High School tomorrow at 7 pm.

For Class 3A Substate 5, Mt. Pleasant will hit the road to take on Keokuk. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 6:45 pm. Washington will face off against Clear Creek-Amana and Fort Madison faces off against Williamsburg. 

In Class 3A Substate 4, Fairfield will take on Marion on the road.

In Class 4A Substate 3, Burlington snatched the sixth seed and will travel to Davenport, West for their first-round matchup. 

The first round for classes 3A and 4A will begin tonight at 7 pm.

High School Wrestling

Southeast Iowa had 13 wrestlers compete on Championship Saturday over the weekend with ten of the wrestlers finishing in the top four.

In Class 1A, WACO had Gage Samo, 113-pound weight class, and Louden Huisenga, 190-pound weight class, wrestling and Samo finished the tournament with a 4-3 record and 6th overall. Huisenga completed the season with a 37-1 record, falling in the championship match to claim 2nd place.

In Class 2A, Burlington Notre Dame was headlined by Kaiden Dietzenbach’s runner-up finish in the 132-pound weight class. The junior has now finished in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place at the state tournament. 

Carter West grabbed 3rd place, while CJ Davis took 4th place and Dirk Boyles nabbed 8th place for the Nikes in their respective weight classes. 

Fairfield’s Cael McCabe finished in 2nd place in the 106-pound weight class. Cason Miller took home 4th place in the 157-pound weight class.

Aaron Boone of Washington grabbed 4th place in the 132-pound weight class.

Lastly, Russel Coil of Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union finished in 2nd place in the 285-pound weight class.

In Class 3A, Braxton Hutchinson of Burlington took 4th place in the 106-pound weight class.

Nolan Riddle finished in 4th place, while Isaac Thacher nabbed 8th place for Fort Madison in their respective weight classes.

Don Bosco repeated as the Class 1A team champions, Osage grabbed the Class 2A title, and Southeast Polk dominated their way to the Class 3A championship.

High School Bowling

The state tournament will begin today as the Mt. Pleasant girls’ team will have Addie McGehearty, Bethany Drury, and Kya Goodrich competing as individuals. 

College Basketball

The #4 Iowa women’s team will travel to take on #12 Indiana on Thursday, February 22nd, at 7 pm.

The Iowa State women’s team fell to #5 Texas over the weekend 81-60. Audi Crooks was the only source of offense as she tallied 24 points. The Cyclones will face off against Houston on Wednesday, February 21st, at 7 pm on the road.

The #10 Iowa State men’s team kept their undefeated streak at home alive after defeating Texas Tech over the weekend 82-74. Keshon Gilbert led the scoring with 24 points as four other Cyclones finished in double figures. Iowa State will take on #3 Houston on the road tonight at 8 pm.

The Iowa men’s team needed overtime but the Hawkeyes pulled off the upset against #20 Wisconsin, winning 88-86. Owen Freeman dominated, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the win. The Hawkeyes will travel to Michigan State tomorrow at 6 pm.
