High School Basketball
Mt. Pleasant was swept by Burlington last night with the girls’ falling 60-33 and the boys’ team dropping their game 64-55 in an overtime finish. Addison Clark and Alexa Fuller each cashed in for 8 points in the girls’ game, while Noah Lange put up 13 points in the effort.
The Mt. Pleasant girls’ team will attempt to get a win on Monday, January 20th, at home against Danville with the game starting at 6 pm. KILJ 105.5 FM, kilj.com, will be on the call with the pregame show at 5:45 pm.
The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team will face off against Oskaloosa on Tuesday, January 21st, at 7:30 pm.
Burlington Notre Dame collected a pair of wins last night as the girls’ team defeated the Tigers 41-33 and the boys’ team handled New London 70-16.
New London will attempt to upset Central Lee on the road on Tuesday with game one starting at 6 pm.

The Wapello girls’ team could not handle Lone Tree last night in a 63-37 loss.

The Fairfield girls’ team will venture to Grinnell on Monday with tip-off at 7:30 pm, while the boys’ team will take on Pella Christian on Tuesday with game time at 7:30 pm on the road.
The Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ team struggled against Hillcrest Academy last night 63-43, while the boys’ could not disrupt the Ravens’ nest at the top of the SEISC-North standings in a 51-43 loss. The Wolves will play Highland on Tuesday with the boys’ team following the girls game at 7:30 pm.
The Columbus boys’ teams outsprinted Highland last night 74-51. The girls’ team outlasted the Huskies 64-57 after outscoring Highland 7-0 in overtime to win.
Columbus will tangle with Van Buren County on Monday with the girls leading the night off at 6 pm.
Danville hosted Central Lee last night and finished 1-1 with the girls’ team winning 48-44 and the boys’ team losing 45-40.
Central Lee will square off against New London at home on Tuesday with game one at 6 pm.
The Danville boys’ team will handle BGM on the road today at 3:30 pm.
The WACO girls’ team added their ninth win in a row last night after walking away with a 35-28 win in a slugfest against Louisa-Muscatine. The Warriors will hit the road to compete against Lone Tree on Tuesday at 6 pm for the girls game.
West Burlington split their night against Holy Trinity Catholic as the girls’ team won 37-31, while the boys’ team dropped their first game of the season 66-60. Teagan Snaadt collected 17 points in the loss. Mason Watkins’ 25 points were not enough to lead the Falcons past Luke Hellige’s 21 points.
West Burlington will face off against Keokuk today with the girls playing first at 2:30 pm on the road.
Holy Trinity Catholic will make the trip to Fort Madison today with the girls’ leading off the day at 11 am.
The Mediapolis girls’ team flattened Van Buren County last night 75-12 behind Ellah Wagenbach’s double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The boys’ team followed suit with a commanding 77-50 win.
Van Buren County will take on Davis County today with game one at 4 pm.
Mediapolis will travel to Burlington Notre Dame on Tuesday with tip-off at 6 pm.

The #2 Iowa State men’s team will play West Virginia today at 4 pm on the road. KILJ 98.5 FM and AM 1130 will have the broadcast.
The Iowa men’s team lost to UCLA last night 94-70. Josh Dix led the team with 19 points. The Hawkeyes will face off against Minnesota on Tuesday, January 21st, at 8 pm.
The Iowa women’s team will travel to Oregon tomorrow, January 19th, with game time at 4 pm.
The Iowa State women’s team will face off against #20 West Virginia tomorrow at noon.

1896 – The first college basketball game played with five players on a side took place at Close Hall on the University of Iowa campus. In that first game, the University of Chicago defeated Iowa 15-12, with neither team using any substitutes.
