High School Baseball

Central Lee’s seven run inning helped pave the way to an 11-0 win over Winfield-Mt. Union last night. Bo Herdrich smacked a home run and totaled a game leading four RBIs in the win. The Wolves will take on Wapello tonight on the road at 5:30 pm. 

Burlington Notre Dame clobbered Lone Tree last night 15-5. The Nikes will travel to Danville tonight at 5:30 pm. 

Danville picked up their first win of the season against Pekin last night in a 2-1 extra innings final. Kessler Whaley and Jade Bauer combined to throw the eight innings with Whaley tallying 11 of the 12 team strikeouts. 

Fairfield hosted Burlington last night and swept the Grayhounds 11-1 in game one and 12-9 in game two. Dain Burkhart picked up the win in game one with two strikeouts. Aiden Kreuter finished 2 for 3 with a team leading three RBIs in the game one win. 

Game two saw the Trojans battle back from an 8 to 1 deficit to come away with their 9th victory of the year. Cason Miller, Caden Allison, and Kreuter each notched two RBIs in the winning effort. Fairfield will face off against Williamsburg tonight at 5:30 pm at home.  

Mt. Pleasant swept Keokuk last night in their road doubleheader, winning 7-1 in game one and 13-3 in game two. Brayton Hutson led the squad with four RBIs in game one as Ben Newton pitched the complete game, throwing 10 strikeouts. J.C. Sitar finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs in game two as the Panthers combined to steal 17 bases. Mt. Pleasant will host Oskaloosa tonight at 7:30 pm. 

Mediapolis will take on Keokuk tomorrow, June 5th, at 7:30 pm at home. 

New London will face off against Central Lee tonight at 5:30 pm at home. 

West Burlington will take on Van Buren County tonight at 5:30 pm on the road. 

High School Softball

West Burlington smacked Columbus last night 13-1. Paige Kramer led the team with a 3 for 3 performance, collecting three RBIs. The Falcons will look to keep rolling tonight on the road against Van Buren County at 7 pm. 

Van Buren County fell to Louisa-Muscatine last night 7-3. Kylee Roen and Lexie Wiley each tabbed an RBI in the loss. 

Mt. Pleasant’s conference road doubleheader against Keokuk last night was spoiled by Ada Wood, pitching stellar in game one and bringing her bat in game two. The Panthers struggled to catch up to Wood in game one, as Mt. Pleasant struck out 16 times before losing 5-3. Addison Clark picked an RBI for the Panthers. 

The Chiefs jumped on Mt. Pleasant early in game two as Wood smacked a two-run home run as Keokuk went on to win 6-2. Paityn Ensminger and Izzy Sloat each tabbed an RBI in the loss. The Panthers will host Keokuk on Thursday, June 6th, at 7:30 pm. 

Winfield-Mt. Union fell to Central Lee last night 15-3. Quin Smith clubbed a two-run home run in the losing effort. The Wolves will travel to Wapello tonight at 5:30 pm. 

Fairfield’s offense struggled in game one against Burlington as the Trojans struck out 10 times in the 13-0 win for the Grayhounds. The Trojans allowed two runs in the top of the first inning in game two, but stood strong keeping Burlington off the board for the rest of the game. Unfortunately, Fairfield pushed across only one run as they lost 2-1. Leah Helmick pitched the complete game, allowing only six hits in the loss. 

Fairfield will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday at 7:30 pm on the road. 

Mediapolis defeated Wapello last night 11-3. Payton Harris, Rachel Martin, Charlotte Mohr, and Maycie Thornburg each knocked in two runs in the win. Maddy Carter pitched a complete game, striking out 10 Arrows. 

Holy Trinity Catholic will attempt to get back in the win column against Mediapolis tonight at 5:30 pm on the road. 

Danville took their first win of the season last night in a high scoring affair against Pekin, 9-7. The Bears will face off against Louisa-Muscatine tomorrow at 7 pm. 

New London will take on Central Lee tonight at 7 pm at home. 

WACO will host Lone Tree tonight at 5:30 pm. 

High School Wrestling

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released a tentative list for the new classifications for the upcoming winter season and here’s where our local teams will be wrestling. 

Burlington Notre Dame, who co-opts with West Burlington and Danville, Highland, who is co-op with Washington, Keokuk, Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield, Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union, Mediapolis, and WACO will be wrestling in Class 1A. 

Fort Madison, who co-ops with Holy Trinity Catholic and Central Lee, and Burlington will be wrestling in Class 2A.

Prospect League

The Burlington Bees had their matchup against the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes last night canceled. 

The Clinton LumberKings will host the Bees tonight at 6:30 pm.
