SCC took on Des Moines Area Community College for the second time in the tournament and produced a similar result, pushing across 13 runs in one inning before going on to win 17-7. Michael Farina totaled four RBIs on two hits, including a solo shot.
This earned the Blackhawks a rematch against the Tritons for the championship; however, they needed two wins. The offense supplied the push needed in game one with 13 unanswered runs for a 20-11 victory. Farina collected another four RBIs, Jackson Petsche had four RBIs of his own, and Abrahan Rios hit a deep fly to left-center field.
Game two was a thriller from start to finish as the two teams traded leads in the third and fifth innings, before Iowa Central tied the game in the 7th inning at 7. The Blackhawks struck first in the top of the 10th inning, but a two-RBI single by the Tritons in the bottom half of the inning cemented Iowa Central’s first region championship since 2017 and the second consecutive runner-up finish for SCC.
The Blackhawks will be hoping for another at-large bid for the NJCAA World Series tournament.
