High School Basketball

The Mt. Pleasant boys basketball team fell in their season opener to Cedar Rapids Washington 58-33. The first quarter produced a close game with the Warriors only up 15-11, however, the Panthers were outscored 19-5 in the second quarter as Cedar Rapids Washington used their size and athleticism to their advantage. Coach Rawson thought there were good things to take away from the game, but plays left out on the court. Payton Hagans led the Panthers in points with 9 followed by Aaiden Ashton and Nate Stroud, who each scored 6 points. Coach Rawson talked about the upcoming matchup with Fort Madison this Friday, December 2nd, at 7:30 pm.

The Mt. Pleasant girls basketball team lost to Ottumwa last night 43-34. It was a close game throughout, but the Bulldogs were able to pull away as they outscored the Panthers by six points in the second half. The Panthers will look to bounce back Friday, December 2nd, on the road against Fort Madison at 7:30 pm. KILJ will be on the call with pregame at 7:15.

The WACO girls basketball team fell to Holy Trinity Catholic last night 50-42. They will be back in action this Friday, December 2nd, at 6 pm against Wapello as they are now 1-1 on the season. The boys basketball team got their first win of the season against the Crusaders 66-52. They will face off against Wapello at the conclusion of the girls game.

The New London girls basketball team fell to Columbus 43-28 after the Wildcats big run in the second quarter as they outscored the Tigers 20-5. It was a tough night of shooting as the Tigers shot less than 24% from the field. Natalie Burden led the team in points with 15, while Mylee Miller tallied 16 rebounds including 7 offensive rebounds. Their next game is tonight, November 29th, against Van Buren County at 6 pm.

The New London boys basketball team will start their season tonight against Van Buren County at 7:30 pm. They will be led by seniors Blaise Porter and Kade Benjamin, both of which were their top three scorers last year as they look to improve on their 20-3 record last season.

The Central Lee boys basketball team dropped their home opener to Davis County 75-58 last night. Three Hawks scored in double digits as Brayden Wyrick finished with 16 points followed by two players from off the bench in Kegan Damico with 14 and Owen Swan with 13. They look to bounce back tonight against Mediapolis at the conclusion of the girls game.

The Central Lee girls basketball team will host Mediapolis tonight at 6 pm as they look for their first win of the year.

The Winfield-Mt. Union girls and boys basketball team will face off against Louisa-Muscatine tonight at home. The girls will play at 6 pm as they are 3-0 to start the season. Bradie Buffington will be looking for her third double-double of the season. The boys will start at 7:30 pm as they look to improve upon their 21-3 record from last year.

High School Wrestling

The Mt. Pleasant girls and boys wrestling team will host Columbus tonight at 6 pm.

WACO girls wrestling team will travel to BGM to compete on Friday, December 2nd.

.Elementary Basketball Tournament

The Mount Pleasant Christmas Holidays 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament for 3rd – 8th grade boys and girls will be held on Dec 17th, 2022. For more registration details contact Coach Ronnie Ashton at 319-931-2896.

Iowa Wesleyan Athletics

The women’s basketball team will  look to get back in the win column tomorrow, November 30th, against Simpson College at 7 pm on the road. The Tigers are currently 6-3 on the season.

The men’s basketball team is now on an 8-game win streak they’ll look to extend it against Waldorf at home tomorrow, November 30th, at 7 pm. KILJ will be on the call with pregame at 6:45. They defeated Waldorf 77-47 earlier in the season with Allante Pickens leading the Tigers in points with 18 as the Tigers made 9 threes on the night, shooting 43%.

The women’s wrestling team will be back in action December 7th for a top ten matchup as they will host the #3 Grand View University Vikings. The men’s wrestling team’s next match will be Saturday, December 3rd, at the Buena Vista Open starting at 9 am.
