Prep Football: Mount Pleasant Stalls, New London Rolls, WACO Stays Perfect in Busy Friday Night:

Keokuk 31, Mount Pleasant 21

In game with 37 accepted penalties, it was the Keokuk Chiefs who withstood it all, clawing their way for a 31-21 win over Mount Pleasant last night at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.

Panther sophomore Payton Hagans finally had his coming out party, scoring three touchdowns, but it was not enough as the Keokuk ground game was too much to overcome.

The combination of Lucas Swainey, Khalyl Tate and Equilius Lee accounted for all Chief points, as Keokuk earned their first win of the season.

Mount Pleasant quarterback Carson Coleman was picked off three times, but kept the chains chugging with bulldozing runs throughout the night.

The loss moved Mount Pleasant to 0-3.

They’ll take the next week to lick their wounds before traveling to West Burlington Notre Dame for a date with the Falcons.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Panther Tailgate Show will begin proceedings at 7:00 p.m. on FM 105.5 and kilj.com.

New London 71, Winfield-Mount Union 18

New London answered a few calls and then some, as they shut down the hottest offense in eight-player football in the state, with a 71-18 win over Winfield-Mount Union last night.

Coming into the contest leading the state in touchdowns, Winfield’s Cam Buffington found tough sledding against a hard-nosed New London front.

New London improved to 2-0 with the victory, while Winfield-Mount Union slipped to 2-1.
